An alternative to bridal tradition, todays styled shoot is a rainbow woodland wedding brought to us by a team of talented suppliers who clearly wanted to bring fun and inspiration into your day! A beautifully executed theme which gives us love, energy and lots of colour. Here we catch up with Nicki from Nicki Shea Photography and some of the suppliers involved who tell us all about the creation of this wonderful rainbow woodland wedding with hand painted leather jacket and Doc Martin bridal shoes…
“The shoot was my baby, dreamt up in my crazy mind of unicorns and fun! And I was over the moon that so many awesome suppliers jumped on board and made it all come true! I wanted to do my own styled shoot to capture the audience that I personally adore being around. Energetic, non-conformists that love fun and colour and celebrating a wedding in their own personal style.”
“It was important to me that I portrayed a real looking wedding. One that showed laughter and alternative style but wasn’t so far ‘out there’ that it flew past peoples ideals or imaginations. I wanted the shoot to confirm to people that they can have an amazing day, staying true to their own personal style and not having to conform to certain wedding traditions that didn’t sit with them. A wedding should absolutely be about the couple, not about what is expected of them from family members or the more traditional side of the industry.”
“It was shot at Milling Barn in Throcking because they had pretty much everything I was looking for. Stunning, newly refurbished rooms for the bridal and groomsmen prep, an expanse of gorgeous scenery but most importantly, a picturesque woodland area giving me the perfect setting for an outdoor wedding.”
“I knew it had to be colourful and as previously mentioned, it needed to have a ‘real wedding’ feel to it. So I wanted to stay away from editorial type shots and gather a bunch of people that were game for a laugh. It’s exactly what I got. The girls and guys I used are not professional models, they were just an ideal group of people that knew how to have fun. All with various jobs and experiences, they made it look like they had known each other for years, when in fact, they had just met that morning.”
“Being a part of various wedding supplier communities, I had a very good idea of who I wanted to use for the shoot to capture and create my ideas perfectly. Everyone was so amazing with their input, time, effort and uber talent! I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with. I am immensely proud of how it all came together and how all the suppliers and models worked as a team to bring my ideas to life!”
Florals – The Flower Bee
“The shoot was to be full of colour, fun and sparkle! I used brightly coloured contrasting blooms keeping seasonal where I could. Lots of foliage to keep it relaxed and inkeeping with the woodland setting. There was no pattern or structure to the arrangements as we were saying a big N O to tradition. I created the bridal bouquet, floral hair pieces, button holes, cake flowers, table flowers and overhead table decoration which was heavily greened by foraging for branches.”
“The whole shoot came together so well, the vibrancy and creativity shone through. All of the suppliers ideas worked so well together creating the perfect non traditonal, colourful, relaxed, woodland wedding.”
Make up – Elly Jane and Emma Morris
“So for makeup Emma and I both knew a bright pop of colour was necessary for the lips. With such amazing clothes for the girls we didn’t want the makeup to overpower anything. We went for a softer pink tone on the eyes and a bright pink/purple lip (Rebel by Mac Cosmetics) for the perfect flash of colour. We knew we had the glitter bar shaking the look up for the evening so made sure there was lots for them to play with on the skin and eyes. Hair was a mixture of soft waves, twists and braids with epic flower crowns to top the look off! Zoe had such great hair to play with the finished look just oozed fun and a relaxed ‘done it myself’ vibe.”
Styling – Fleur de Lace
“Styling this shoot was a ball… Who wouldn’t say no when told to be creative, colourful and think out of the box in the brief. I put spins on the pinwheel and ribbon backdrop I have been known to create adding wooly pompom drops to echo the pompoms lining the floor. I’m inspired by festival fashions creating scenes of bohemian chic and mixing it in a little with handy homemade items. I see a shoot as a great way to display what we can do at Fleur de Lace if you were to book us but more so showing couples what they can create themselves, handmade place settings, pompoms on sticks etc.”
