A vintage wedding doesn’t have to have an authentic vintage dress; it is all the extra little details, often from a defined era, that make it come alive and shout vintage. Today’s featured pastel wedding of Tony and Amy Adducci, does just this – from the vintage hankies to mop up your “happy tears” to the table settings – the pretty tones and retro pieces create a day that is both special to them and one that we can be inspired by.
The Proposal
On December 22, 2012 Tony proposed to Amy at 12:34pm. (She loves the time 12:34, always shouting 1-2-3-4!) While she was getting ready for their date night with some friends, Tony called her over and asked what’s wrong with the cat? Her excitement quickly turned to fear. She rushed over to find that Tony had tied a jewellery box to the collar with an engagement ring inside. Of course, she said yes!
The Theme
The theme was a classic 1950’s wedding. Amy says, “When I think about the 50’s, I think of June Cleaver caring for her family. Tony and I have a daughter, Emma, who was also our flower girl. Our wedding was more than Tony and I bringing our lives together, it was about our family that we created finally sharing the same name.”
The Dress
Amy wore a gown designed by Justin Alexander. It was a sleeveless lace dress with a dropped waist ball gown, circular cut tulle with a chapel train. To highlight the beauty of the dress she wore a pearl necklace, pearl drop earrings, and knit gloves with pearl details. Amy describes it as “perfect because I felt like a classic bride in the dress.”
The bridesmaids wore the Harper style Luna dress by Nicki Flynn, a sleeveless design with an off the shoulder neckline. The rum pink lace bodice gave a vintage feel to the aqua T-length organza circular skirt.
The Details
The pastel wedding details are what I love about this wedding. They used turquoise, mint, baby pink and navy blue with accents of gold in their colour pallet. One of their favourite retro details was using vinyl records as the guest book with a customized label of the first dance, echoing Tony’s cuff links.
Each table had beautiful head vases as a centre piece along with other dressing table pieces and the table numbers were hand embroidered adding to this pastel wedding look. “I wanted to add colour to the guest tables, so I made fabric chargers with a lovely print of roses and polka dots. For any table standing alone, I used Fenton milk glass hobnail vases. I carried those details into the wedding cake.”
The bottom tier had the same pattern as the chargers, while the top two layers were hobnail, topped with an antique bride and groom topper. The photo booth was vintage inspired. Even the guests wore vintage inspired clothing.
The Suit
Tony wore a midnight blue tuxedo with black accents for a retro look. While the groomsmen wore a slim black tie, Tony wore a classic black bowtie. The vinyl record cufflinks also added a retro detail to the groom’s outfit.
“I love vintage! I love the style. I love the items. I learn so much and have fun doing what I call “treasure hunting” when I’m antiquing. I meet so many people and make connections with them through antiques. Vintage just makes me happy.”
We couldn’t agree more!
