With ‘ultra violet’ being named Pantone’s colour of the year we’ve had an array of inspiration to bring that purple touch into your wedding day. This beautifully executed shoot (and may we add it’s set in the wonderful state of Texas!) explores the colour purple further, shows us different shades to compliment one another, and introduces those other jewel tones to give us a palette of jewel coloured wedding loveliness! It uses these strong and bold colours in an uber chic, fresh and modern way. Kelsey Miller was co-ordinator for the styled shoot and here we catch up with her and the other suppliers to find out the in and outs of this jewel coloured wedding inspiration.
Jewel Coloured Wedding Inspiration with French Country Vibes and a Touch of Vintage
“For a majority of the weddings we see a lot of soft pastel that are favoured by most brides. The colour palette for this shoot is made for the fearless woman. Adventurous colours that are bold, beautiful and a lot of fun, while retaining the breath of elegance. These are undeniably courageous hues. A complete contrast from the popular pastels.”
“With Pantone’s colour of the year for 2018 being ultra violet, it was incorporated into this shoot and teamed with a combination of other hues to evoke an air that is rich and regal. Like royal blues, fiery pink tones and touches of gold for that heightened level of grandeur.”
“Venue 311 is a French Country inspired wedding venue nestled in the countryside of Plantersville Texas. The rich colors of this jewel toned shoot contrasted beautifully with the whitewashed shiplap walls and natural sunlight that floods the grand room of the venue. The space was thoughtfully designed to provide a romantic, classic backdrop to couples on their special day. The vintage luxe vibe of this styled shoot blended effortlessly with the classic lines and simple color palette of this wedding spot.

“I have a journalistic and contemporary style to photography. Catching the warmth, light and shade where it touches and the essence of the moment when it happens. My style of editing is bright, yet rich and crisp. That way you can see the details in everything, from the design of the table to the intricate lace elements of the wedding dress worn by the bride. Capturing indescribable moments to tell a story is something I love to do and reflect in the images I take.”

“The table setting was designed using jewel-tone colours to honour the theme. With ultra violet agate slices as place cards, beautifully written in white calligraphy. Placed on white china plates with thin gold trims, amplified with gold textured charger plates and gold tableware. With the napkins also being purple, a deep blue velvet table runner was used, that complimented the richness of the colour combination, while giving it some contrast that works beautifully. The table was then finished with the flowers used in the bride’s bouquet. Loosely placed in mercury gold cups, to give it that elegant look.”
The Dress and Accessories – Shades of White Bridal
“When we chose the dress for this shoot, we were looking for something romantic. A dress with a touch of vintage, delicate lace and light tulle for that soft elegant feel. A dress that would remain timeless throughout the years. We found the perfect fit to flare, lace sleeves and gorgeous back detail. A look that compliments the theme and fits in nicely with the vintage car and the transitional venue.”
Florals – Petal Society
“A loosely wild bouquet. Rich in deep colours, as well as, soft colours combined to give it a romantic, yet majestic and glorious impression. With green foliage, chaotically, but beautifully placed, gives it an effortless look. The flowers used were muted yellow and muted vintage purple roses, violet anemone, lily of the incas of fiery hues, violet larkspur & irises, soft purple orchids and deep magenta blossomed peonies. There were many species of flowers of varying colours used. And what sounds like it wouldn’t, will certainly surprise you when bundled together with a lot of thought and care.”
Cake – Ever So Sweet Bespoke Cakery
I love getting to be a part of styled shoots because it allows me creative freedom with cake design and to work with other great vendors. I tend to take inspiration from not only the colour story on the mood board provided for the shoot but also the other elements. Sometimes my inspiration comes from the cake photo on the mood board, the florals, dress, or other textures. For this shoot, I focused on the jewel tone colours (which I LOVED) as well as some of the elements from the cake on the mood board (like the gold hexagons). I also love incorporating fresh flowers in my designs, flowers are like the jewellery for a cake, and it finishes and adds that extra touch to a design. Using the same flowers from the centrepieces/bouquets on the cake also ties the designs back to each other.”
Hair & Makeup – Sunny Hair and Makeup
“The makeup was kept natural, with earthy brown tones used for the eyes that makes the bride’s eyes shine. A similar tone was also used for her cheeks, instead of pink an apricot/blush tone was used to highlight her cheeks. As everything was kept simple, a deep mauve lipstick sealed her lips, giving a look of regal richness. Her hair was also kept simple, pulled back in a low bun and finished off with a gold floral headpiece for that vintage look”
Calligraphy – Chauncey Calligraphy & Design
“The invitation suite was designed with a water colour design of florals that worked nicely with the floral arrangements and bride’s bouquet. The stationery was tied together with a deep plum velvet ribbon and encased in deep purple envelopes, brushed with gold to seal. The perfect fall wedding invitation suite, but could really work with any season for a moodier, sophisticated effect.”
