Set at The Kite at the Red Hart this fresh contemporary wedding with alternative groom styling, and epic flower crowns is bursting with eclectic style. We absolutely love the mix of styles that brings this wedding straight into the 21st Century. We catch up with stylist and coordinator Laura of Betrothed and Co and the team of suppliers behind it who talk to us about how this contemporary wedding inspiration was created…
“The concept of the shoot began, literally, with a Sunday Roast at the Kite at the Red Hart. As a photographer, I’m a very visual person, and the aesthetic at the Kite at the Red Hart (and the food) was really inspiring. We based everything on the colour of those walls — it’s really refreshing (and on trend) for brides to have an eclectic aesthetic and we felt that this was the perfect venue for it. The idea of a small, intimate wedding in an old coaching inn won over the romantic in me straight away.”
“Sara, of Venue Styling by Sara, worked really hard (and did a beautiful job) of working with the room, using softer tones such as pale grey and lilac to balance out the strong colours of the walls. Nestling in brass candles against pale green eucalyptus made for a wonderfully simple centrepiece, running the whole length of the table, all atop a beautiful grey cheesecloth runner. We really loved her suggestion of those beautiful, soft colours against a stronger one — great advice for anyone planning the colours for their big day.”
“Photography and videography were done by myself and Frankie of Betrothed&Co, with additional images captured by Whitney Lloyd Photography. Here at Betrothed&Co we are both lovers of clean edits with deep, rich colours and moody undertones. The room, and all the talent brought by the suppliers we worked with made our work incredibly easy, and made even easier by Whitney’s great attention to detail and aesthetic sense.”
“The dresses are both non-traditional wedding dresses, both by Maya. We’re loving the trend of brides embracing wedding dresses of different colours, textures and lengths to the norm and we really wanted to be part of that in this shoot. As you can see, we had Suzy modelling the beautiful soft grey dress with the beautiful tulle skirt, which slotted right in with our room. Katherine modeled a dress in a tawny champagne, which provided a little “pop” against those blue walls.”
“Our stunning (and delicious!) wedding cake was provided by Cakes & Leaves, an eco friendly cake maker based in London. The pale dove grey Italian meringue buttercream was coloured naturally with charcoal powder and included a beautiful example of silver leaf as well. To keep up with the minimal and eclectic design, Dina, owner of Cakes & Leaves, teamed up with Anita from Vintage Rose Florists, to decorate the cake with dried flowers. Once cut, we all got a taste of Dina’s delicious sweet strawberry sponge with white chocolate mascarpone mousse. It looks as good as it tastes!”
“Our two bouquets had very different looks but were equally stunning and provided by Anita of Vintage Rose Florist. Anita created both bouquets with both fresh flowers, and dried, something we’re seeing a lot more of at the moment. Katherine’s bouquet was made with gypsophila, wheat, yellow craspedia, dried lavender and fluffy grasses and pheasant feathers – that were foraged on a recent country walk, whilst Suzy’s bouquet consisted of smokey lilac limonium (statice), gypsophia, beautiful blue cornflowers and again dried lavender.”
“Hair and makeup was provided by the indomitable Francesca Fonzarelli of Francesca Fonzarelli Hair & Makeup. She believes that bridal hair and makeup shouldn’t have to be complicated, and adds that all you need for a flower crown is a great blow dry. Her goal for the day was to have one bride look minimal and dewy skinned (a personal favourite wedding day look for me) and the other with a dramatic smokey eye. A good skincare routine before your big day is a must, as well as finding as HMUA that can execute your vision — don’t be afraid to shop around!”
“We’d also like to highlight Nat, of Nat’s Paper Studio, who provided all of the stationery. Her simple, minimalist style is timeless and we were blown away by the attention to detail in her work, those wax seals especially. Alexandra of Alexandra Bespoke also provided hair vines, which you can see in Katherine’s hair, providing a classic and understated look which we loved.”
