This fresh and vibrant modern outdoor wedding is both contemporary and stylish in it’s approach, with beautiful hues of greens, mustard yellows and fresh, tropical florals it’s sure to give you lots of ideas and inspiration for your own big day. Set at Statfold Barn Railway, and making use of it’s beautiful outdoor spaces it’s both bold and elegant, fresh and modern.
Here we catch up with shoot coordinator Laura Sutton of The Cake Spa who tells us all about how this modern outdoor wedding was created…
“In a world full of traditional weddings, we are forever seeking to obtain something different, not something obscure, tacky or novelty, something modern, stylish, something different. And so with that we found a really quirky venue with loads of outside space – a real talking point for your wedding – and chose a bold, statement colour scheme, emerald green, mustard yellow, white and black. With the addition on some amazing styling, a beautiful mix of fresh and dried florals (bang on trend!), stunning and achievable bridal styling, all topped off with beautiful light and airy photography. There were additions of luxury throughout, including the use of emerald velvet, coloured candles, a stunning cake trio and multiple pieces of large stationary displayed on gorgeous black iron stands.”
“The shoot was shot at Statfold Barn Railway, a relatively new but award winning venue which has its own private railway line, with working trains and trams. The buildings are all new barns, which gives a fantastic industrial feel without being rustic or run down. You can get married on the turning circle used for the trains and the guests can jump on a steam train to take you to the Roundhouse, travel through stunning Staffordshire countryside and arrive at your perfect day in style. There’s a vintage station which is surrounding by beautiful fields with stunning views as backdrops. The icing on the cake is the gorgeous walled garden and lake, which makes a great place for those couple shots or reception drinks. A quirky venue offering something really different.”
Styling – The Rustic Wedding Company
“The colour palette chosen was mustard, emerald green, black and white with a variety of textures including velvet, glass, dark greenery and natural wood. The long wooden trestle tables were dressed with emerald green velvet table runners, with mustard place mats with , crystal cut glasses and black cutlery. Tall beeswax candles in modern black candle holders gave an additional luxury feel. Natural wood backdrops were used for the ceremony and cake display and they were tied in with the styling with the addition of industrial lighting, velvet draping and some florals.”
Photography – Life Through A Lens
“The photographer’s style is light and airy and she really captured the relaxed and fun experience of the models, perfect for this shoot.”
“As well as natural styles and poses she also manged to capture some candid moments. She showcased the mix of the boho and indie vibes of the wedding dress against the range of outdoor backdrops that Statfold has to offer. With the addition of industrial feels with the trains and iron props and the garden and fields softened the story for those who prefer this style.”
“I wanted to focus not only on the interactions of the “couple” but on the details of the décor so that you can see that wedding photography is about telling your story through a set of images.”
Bridal Styling
“In keeping with the modern laid back styling of the shoot we decided to showcase one of the bridal boutique’s new designers – E&W Couture – who’s collections perfectly capture what the Cicily bride is looking for – relaxed, informal, unstructured and something a little bit different. We love to mix in high street trends alongside bridal fashion and so chose to style the looks with natural straw fabrications mixed in with pearls to give a slight 70s retro vibe. This makes the look accessible to anyone! The evening look had to be about the Charlie Brear Carson Jumpsuit again styled with pearls and a super soft slouchy knit from Rembo Styling.”
Flowers- Greenery and Co
“A mix of fresh and dried flowers across the florals of the day, makes for some amazing combinations. The bouquet was a mix of delphiniums, ranunculus, peonies and dried craspedia with foliage including ferns, loosely arranged, giving a relaxed vibe. Table garlands of greenery, topped with craspedia, ranunculus and scabisoa again adds to the laid back vibe, but sets off the table perfectly. Crapedia crept in all over the shoot as it was a great way of adding a splash of the mustard yellow tones. Some simple bunches of fern and eucalyptus really set off the chairs and were up-cycled from the ceremony chairs to the chairs used for the wedding breakfast. The flowers even snuck onto the bride’s hat, which was a lovely way of tying the hat into the wedding theme.”
Stationery – With Love Wedding Stationery
“The stationary was minimal and contemporary in style, with modern florals and a subtle use of colouring to tie in with the bold colour scheme without making it overbearing. Then strong colours were found in the place cards, invitation inserts, and inside of the envelopes, linking back to the true colour scheme. A really clever way of incorporating a strong colour into your stationary bundle. Also, lovely details, such as tassels and silk ribbons add that luxe feel to the different elements. A full range of stationary included invitations, table numbers, place names, menus, order of the day, table plan and welcome signs, mostly displayed on bespoke made, minimalist iron stands. The choice of font really complemented the contemporary, modern feel of the wedding.”
Cake- The Cake Spa
“A cake trio is the ultimate wedding cake display, elegant, different, luxurious and plenty of opportunity for lots of cake flavours! The bold colour scheme was reflected in a number of the tiers, with mustard and emerald green tiers in all cakes. One of the emerald tiers was a velvet effect for an additional luxe feel. The stationery design was echoed on the cake by hand painting the floral pattern onto the white tiers, which is a great way of tying in all the styling together. Adding a backdrop, cake sign or multi-level podiums to house your cake, elevate its display to make it a true feature of the décor and centerpiece in the room.”
Hair and Make Up – Hayley Thompson and Gemma W Hairdressing
“The bride’s hair was kept very simple and classy with a low ponytail, perfect for the laid back bride, especially when factoring in flower crown or floppy hats, as we did. The look was effortless chic with the tousled ponytail but with the option of adding clips, a headpiece or any accessory for added glam or to take you into the evening. The make-up choice also had the laid back, carefree bride in mind, natural but definitely there! Minimal with mustard tones, a winged liner and a pop of peach on the lip.”
Groomswear
“The black suit was the groom’s own, from George at Asda if you would believe it!! Styled with a stunning addition of a dark green velvet tie from River Island. Which shows you don’t have to break the bank to get a classy, luxury look that doesn’t look out of place in a stylish wedding!”
