The Kent based venue of Solton Manor, a handful of local suppliers, some sustainable touches and a colour palette of warm toffee, soft apricot and creamy roses with pops of deep red, for today’s styled shoot. It has a warm, magical autumnal feel, greenery and gold running through, a rock chick bride and THE cutest little sausage dog, whats not too love! We catch up with shoot coordinator and hair and make up artist Ellen Dalton and the rest of the suppliers to find out about this Solton Manor shoot…
“I wanted to create a celebration of autumnal style but with a cool and trendy vibe that bought together a glorious manor building with some great urban shots to show you can mix up a traditional venue with contemporary wedding. The feel and colour palette was warm and autumnal amber, apricots with rich browns and deep green foliage. To create the mood and magical vibe we used lots of candles for scent scraping and twinkly light. The tablescape was simple with lots of foliage and candlelight it was complimented by stylish stationary, a fabulous graze table and an amazing cake. We went for a mix of traditional dresses with great jackets and boots to keep it contemporary. Hair and makeup was bold and bang on trend.
To add some fun we included a magical kids corner a selfie mirror and a gorgeous sausage dog!”
Venue – Solton Manor
“Solton Manor offers something truly unique for your wedding or event; the symbiosis of a Grade II listed luxury manor house alongside the contemporary elegance of a stunning converted barn. Whilst the manor house itself can accommodate up to 100 for an intimate, boutique style wedding, the barns offer the opportunity for up to 200 dining in ultra-modern, yet characterful surroundings.”
Photographer – James Grist
“My approach to any styled shoot and my work in general, is to be as open minded as possible and to take onboard input from all those involved. Ellen and I discussed what she wanted to achieve from the day and her concept for the shoot, which gave me an idea of her vision. My style of shooting is more relaxed and less structured which enables the subjects to feel at ease and creates more natural shots. Having worked at Solton Manor previously, I had knowledge of the different areas available; what works and what doesn’t. I find it really helps to get to know your area as much as possible and also saves a lot of time. In my opinion it definitely makes a massive difference having such a great team of suppliers that help bring the whole shoot together and enabled us to achieve such great shots.”
Florist – Liberty Forals
“Warm toffee tones with pale Apricot and creamy roses peppered with deep chocolate and tiny pops of reds and deep pinks. Florist, Sophie, chose David Austin Juliet roses, VIP roses and Toffee roses. The seeded Eucalyptus and ferns gave lots of texture along with tiny berries and the beautiful velvety chocolate Cosmos floating perfectly gave interest and warmth. Adorned with silks in muted Autumnal colours from Silk & Purl. Using the same flowers and silks throughout to style the flat lay and on the feature Moongate, Sophie created a cohesive design with flower features upon a base of rich foliage. Simplifying the design within the tablescape meant that the tableware and stationery were featured perfectly, accompanied by lots of twinkly candlelight and framed by the large hanging piece above the table”
Candles- By Laura London Ltd
Laura from By Laura London works with couples to create a unique collection of wedding candles scented to suit their tastes & to beautifully complement a wedding day. The tablescape at the shoot really showcases how candles not only add a warm & cosy atmosphere to an event with their light, but with the added addition of an individual and bespoke scent can really leave a lasting impression on guests and create wonderful memories to be recalled for years to come.
Kids Corner Teepees- Slumber Teepees
“Because every wedding needs a little retreat for the kiddies, a magical space to play, relax & dream whilst the adults are in full swing on the dance floor… This gorgeous teepee area, perfectly styled to compliment the cosy autumnal theme, offers an enchanting twist on the classic ‘kids corner’ for the little ones to get their arts & crafts on, read, hang out or even have a nap after all the excitement (and sugar!) has worn off. Think rustic vibes with a natural, edgy twist providing the perfect setting to keep the children happy and comfy into the early hours.”
Graze Table – Kitchen of Kent
“Here at Kitchen of Kent graze tables are our fast rising trend with speciality cheese from around Kent, cured meats, antipasti, a selection of dipping pots, hand crafted savouries, nuts, our locally crafted bread with English butter, fruits, house pickles, chutneys & crackers. It’s the perfect way to feed your wedding guests with less formality and with lots of variety! We used wonderful fresh and local produce to create a graze table bursting with deep autumnal colours it sat perfectly alongside the guest table.”
Selfie Mirror – Temptation Towers
“Ready to Rock the Rustic Vibe with this Retro Beauty? A Wooden, Chic photo taking mirror, that’s just the perfect entertainment experience for guests young and old.
Capture the excitement and hilarity from your celebrations to create treasured photo memories!”
Stationery- Made By Rae Designs
“The beautiful bespoke stationery suite was designed by Rae Jenkins @ Made By Rae Designs using a variety of recycled and sustainable papers. The simplicity and style complimented the tablescape beautifully and kept the autumnal vibe.”
Dresses- Bridal Boutique at Chilham
“Both dresses used in the shoot are ex-sample gowns, which are available to purchase from Bridal Boutique at Chilham, who are campaigning against single use wedding dresses, and only sell used wedding dresses- ex-samples or pre-loved. This is the most sustainable way to shop for your wedding dress and it cuts industry waste, as well as saving you money!”
Wtoo Arabella – “This dress is very simplistic, but utterly unforgettable. The bodice is made from a stretch satin fabric which really hugs the body. Complete with a low scoop back for a real eye catching feature. The fluffy tulle skirt has been cut into a handkerchief style, and is elegantly trimmed with a chunky satin ribbon edge, giving a very modern and chic look. The contrast of this soft, feminine, ballerina vibe dress, against the edgy leather jacket and dramatic hair and make-up styling works wonders- and was a perfect choice for this modern shoot.”
Lore – “A perfect choice for this moody autumnal day shoot. This dress was selected as it is made from a really bold leafy, floral patterned fabric, which felt appropriate with the seasonal theme. With the train being semi-sheer, you could see the grass through slightly, and it moved beautifully over the autumn leaves. As with the previous gown selection, using a traditional, modern twist style dress worked a dream with the contrasting dark, moody styling created by the rest of the contributors. And the deep plunging neckline was the perfect choice alongside the open leather jacket.”
Jackets- Berry and The Bee
“My journey started in 2017 when I bought some leather acrylic paints and took a big leap to try out a design on one of my beloved jackets! Thankfully it paid off and my vision came to life. I now take orders for custom bridal faux leather jackets and personalised denim jackets. New or pre-loved jackets available, ready for your unique design.”
Lead Hair & make-up and model styling- Ellen Dalton Hair & Make up
“We wanted the Hair and make up to be bold and edgey yet easy to wear so that brides could see they could mix up a traditional venue with key trends. For make-up we went for strong autumnal colours of burnt orange and copper complimented by gold accents. The hair was contemporary and we used fresh flowers to soften the style. The dresses were chosen perfectly and we kept the styling for the maid trendy and relaxed. I’m sure you’ll agree Bentley (the sausage dog!!!) looked very dapper in his flower collar!”
Wedding cake – Cobi and Coco
“A warm cosy palette with a little added texture and metallic Gold leaf makes this Autumnal wedding cake. With handmade sugar flowers and foliage tied effortlessly together with a trailing silk ribbon. A relaxed yet decadent wedding cake designed by Serena at Cobi & Coco.”
Videographer – Film our Day
“It was my first time at Solton Manor and also working with many of the suppliers, and it was a brilliant adventure from start to finish. The Manor ground had so many fantastic features it was hard to capture them all. The models were all lovely and I especially love the shot with the orange flare popping against the black barn. What a great team and venue!”
