Here we catch up with them to find out all about how they met, the proposal and the planning of their modern vintage wedding at The Gathering Barn…
How Did You Meet?
“We met back in 2011, Nicky is a singer and was travelling the world with her band, The Volume. They needed a new Drummer, and I knew the Guitarist, who managed to get me in!”
The Proposal
“After finishing a Cruise Ship contract with our band in Asia, we took a break and flew to Australia for a 3 week trip. Part of our trip included 3 days camping out and visiting landmarks at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. On our second night, whilst watching the sunset. We were trying to get a good photo from a vantage point, and Jack managed to surpise Nicky as she turned round.”
The Location
“We love the outdoors, and when we were looking for venues, the pictures sold it from the start. The Gathering Barn, is situated in the stunning Wiltshire countryside, away from onlookers and passers by, But with an amazing feeling of space. ”
Planning The Wedding
We always wanted a country style wedding, but also wanted to be able to do it ourselves. We took on the task of organising everything, from the food and drinks, down to the cutlery and napkins. We were very lucky to find amazing suppliers to work with!”
The Dress
“Actually, this happened to be one of the first dresses I found. I knew I wanted to get it from overseas, to help save with costs for the wedding. I had a little drama, as I had found this dress about 2 years before the big day, but foolishly hadn’t saved the website link! So when I came to ordering the dress, I coultn find it anywhere. It took me a very long evening, with a few glasses of wine, to find it again! This confirmed that it had to be the one, as I couldn’t imagine wearing anything else.”
The Suit
“I knew I wanted a green suit, as it matched the emerald engagement ring i had given Nicky, which was never going to be easy to find. In the end I found exactly what I was looking for on ASOS. A beautiful Forest Green Micro texture suit. Paired with some lovely Burgundy ties and socks, and a Gold Tie Bar. It was exactly what I had pictured.”
The Bridesmaids
“We had 4 Bridesmaids dressed in a lovely burgundy off the shoulder dress from ‘Select’ and the Maid of Honour was in a matching dress in Emerald Green. A lovely platted up do, with natural makeup. I had met my Maid of Honour while travelling in New Zealand, and it turned out that we only lived 15 minutes away from eachother back in England! We have been best friends ever since. We also had 2 of my College friends, my Neice, and Jacks sister.”
The Details
“Cake; we cheated! We borrowed a styrofoam ‘fake’ cake from a friend, and dressed it up. It already had a cut mark for photos etc! But saved on a any wastage!”
“Flowers; We are very lucky to have florists in the family. Both Nickys Sister and Neice run their own Florist shops in Essex. They sourced beautiful Columbian White Roses, paired with a stunning dark Red Baccara rose. They added in foliage and a few other beautiful flowers. Everything from our, bouquets, button holes, top table, pedestools and single stems on the long tables, were beautiful!”
“Band; As musicians ourselves, we had a hard choice finding our band. But we chose our good friend Jon Kent’s band, called Penthouse 5. They play a lot of great arrangments, and throwbacks to the 90s. A lot of fun!”
“Catering; We found possibly the best caterers ever! ‘Vegan to you’ from Somerset. They were great to work with, from organising tasters, to helping with further allergies of guests. And the final 3 course dinner and evening food was amazing! We had great feedback from our family and friends.”
Ethical and Sustainable Elements
“We’re are both Vegan, so this was thought about from start to finish. The clothing, the food, the drink choices. And the Venue had a field full of solar panels. Meaning the whole venue was running on sustainable energy!”
Best Part of the Day
“There was many to talk about. We were very lucky to have our amazing dog, Brando, at our ceremony. He was down the front with Jack, and his reaction when Nicky came around the corner was heart melting. Such a loving moment.”
Words of Wisdom
“Just enjoy it! It goes past in a flash. So make sure you take a second, ground yourself and take it all in!”
