Some super fun vibes from this New York City Wedding at DUMBO Lofts… exactly the way a wedding should be! This beautiful couple Alicia and Jamin, created a day that was perfect for the two of them, with a modern city wedding with a bit of Gatsby glam thrown in. We hear about how they created their wedding Dumbo Loft wedding.
How Did You Meet
“We met in 2014 at a dinner in London with some mutual friends and stayed on contact. Over the months and years we went on a few European group holidays as ‘just friends’. But then in 2017, our friendship just naturally blossomed into something more.”
The Proposal
“Jamin proposed in 2018 at the Bethsaida Fountain in Central Park. He was a bag of nerves but it was perfectly orchestrated like something to of a movie. He arranged for a singer to serenade them with “Perfect’ by Ed Sheehan accompanied by a busking saxophonist. It was very public and very romantic.”
Planning The Wedding
“As Alicia is a Londoner and Jamin lived in New York; planning the New York nuptials and celebrations was remarkably stress free and guided by multiple Pinterest mood boards. They decided on a nod to Art Deco with Gatsby influences and were in agreement the whole way through utilising google docs and spreadsheets to the maximum!”
The Location
“As the groom was based in New York he done most of the running around and they also relied heavily on recommendations from friends who had had good experiences with suppliers. They decided on the Dumbo Loft as wedding venue on the basis of some recommendations and were not disappointed. They also managed to secure a great deal on the daily rate which was perfect. The main attraction was also the location. As they were having guests traveling from abroad they wanted a central, easy to find venue. DUMBO Loft was right by the Hudson Rover and Brooklyn Bridge so perfectly situated for international’s guests.”
The Dress
“The dress was a wild card! It was a dress that Alicia would have never looked at. It was a Hollywood belle style dress and the moment she put it on she felt ‘sassy, confident, sexy and beautiful.’ It was just so made for her and it WAS NOT WHITE! Alicia had never wanted a white or ivory dress and so the blush and Champagne tones were perfect. Alicia tried and fell in love with the dress at the Berketex Bride flagship store. But as it was such a wildcard she said she needed to think about but and didn’t buy it then and there. Dramatically, Berketex Bride went in to administration and all the stock was sent for auction including the blush Bethany dress she had fallen in love with. She ended up driving all the way from London to South Wales (3 and half hours each way!)”
The Suit
“The groom wore an Armani suit and managed to grab a bargain on a suit that fit like a glove.”
The Bridesmaids
“The Bride said that she had so many wonderful women in her life that she felt she couldn’t choose and had initially actually decided not to have bridesmaids. Jamin however had always planned to have groomsmen even before had had a bride to wed. After discussing things, Alicia decided to choose one of her 3 beautiful sisters, a cousin and three of just a few of her special friends to accompany her down the aisle. Her three friends each represented a different stage of her life.”
The Details
“Most of the wedding details where lovingly DIY’d or created by a friend / stylist Carissa. The theme was Gatsby inspired and a local Harlem bakery made a simple lemon and buttercream icing square layered cake which Carissa then added a fan detail to. Alicia had never liked flower and decided that instead of bridal bouquets both her and her maids would have oversized feather fans which could then also double up as a keepsake.”
Ethical or Sustainable Elements
“Instead of fresh cut flowers and arrangements with floral foam, Alicia and Jamin had a silk flowers arrangement at the ceremony with feather detail that was then reused for the head table centrepiece. Leading up to the wedding they spoke to local NYC bar owners to collect empty wine bottles, which they cleaned and used as guest table decorative features.”
Best Part of The Day
“The best part of the day was walking down the aisle with two of three most important men in her life – her incredible younger brother Chavis and her wonderful father – and then looking ahead and seeing her husband to be. There were so many special moments but walking down the aisle was the best part.”
Words of Wisdom
“Don’t stress. Have a spreadsheet. Laugh lots. Don’t feel obligated to invite people and really think about who you want to be there. Choose people who will add to the joy of the day and that will shine through in your recollection if the day and in the wedding pictures.”
