An explosion of colour and beautiful red and pink hues for this wedding inspiration at Isla Gladstone, Liverpool. With trio of wedding suppliers at the heart of the creativity Rachel of Rachel Clarke Wedding Photography, Andrea of Make up by Andrea Baines and Kitty of Birdie Camper Van Photo Booth wanted to create a crazy colourful day with romantic wedding tones to inspire other couples to not be afraid of colour when it comes to the big day! Here we catch up with the team behind this Isla Gladstone shoot…
“We love all things crazy and colourful. We have done colourful shoots in the past so we were trying to think of an idea/theme that would still be fun and vibrant without being ‘rainbow.’ We opted for reds and pinks as they are romantic colours but still vivid and fun. The shoot also took place around Valentines so was quite fitting for the time. We thought that the colour scheme would appeal to both brides who want a vibrant, colourful weddings and brides who maybe don’t want crazy colour but want a more romantic style. We were just eager to pull off a shoot in a small amount of time (this was though of and organised in less than 2 weeks) and it include some of the best local suppliers in the industry!”
“We wanted colourful and romantic, Andrea really wanted to do a classic red lip look with subtle waves in the hair. A really classy and romantic look for hair and make up with pops of colour was where we started. Then Kitty and I started thinking of little alternative inspirations to add in without it being too over the top.”
“The shoot took place at the gorgeous Isla Gladstone Conservatory in Liverpool. It is a breath-taking venue placed at the heart of Stanley Park. The sun-flooded interior breathes warmth and drama into any occasion, and the well-groomed grounds change with the turning of the seasons. It has a fabulous band stand outside and is described as a place of true wonder and charm.”
Styling & Flowers – Sweet Pea and Ivy
“When styling this shoot, I looked at lots of different sources of inspiration, I really like the opulent and classical styling but wanted an injection of fun and whimsy too. The plush velvet runner and vintage brass candlesticks really helped to create that classical elegance but the bright colours from the florals and neon pink taper candles brought in an element of playfulness along with the cute Pom Pom chair details which introduced a slight kitch feel to the overall design. I really like this juxtaposition of different styling and feel is important for brides to know they don’t have to have everything themed, a mix and a clash of ideas is often much more interesting and all go towards creating a unique and personalised feel to your day.”
Flower Wall and LOVE Letters – Pretty Your Party
“The beautiful backdrop bursting with pink and red florals by Pretty your Party provided a perfect match for our vision, it felt like it was made for this moment! The colours of the backdrop just popped against the fresh white of the beautiful vintage dresses. The Floral Love Letters which are filled with free-flowing blush florals complimented the gorgeous pink of the caravan.”
Photography- Rachel Clarke Wedding Photography
“As a photographer, I love anything a bit different. Whether that be colourful, punky, quirky or alternative weddings. I always love my work to be full of colour and fun. When planning out the shoot we wanted something that could be considered romantic but with a bit of quirkiness and pops of colour. The bright pinks and reds make the shoot fun but also appeal to that romantic side to a wedding. I take a natural approach when it comes to photography. So on a wedding day I mostly capture things as they happen as well as some gorgeous couple photos. Due to this shoot being set up the shots are more like one big couples session and portraits. I did like to interact with the models to bring out their fun side and get them to have a giggle and things too for a few more natural looking shots”
Bridal – Six Penny Bride
“When Andrea and Rachel suggested using vintage dresses for the shoot, I knew immediately that we had to have at least one dress that had all the froth and full skirts of the 1950s and another to reflect the more laid back, bohemian style of the Seventies which is so popular with brides at the moment. Spoilt for choice, we could not decide so ended up using four dresses, each one chosen for their unique vintage style.”
“I hand craft hair accessories in addition to stocking antique tiaras, and as the brief was pink, red and girly, I re-modelled a plain white 1950s tulle ballerina crown into a colourful, sparkly headpiece complete with velvet strawberries!”
Cake – Elizabeth Anna Cake Design
“When it came to the design for the cake wedding cake designer Elizabeth Anna Cake Design went for a rustic buttercream which is still proving to be a popular trend and allows for a softer, textured finish perfect for a floral, boho, romantic wedding style. Cascading flowers in pinks and reds completed the romantic design which was complimented by pretty floral cupcakes and whimsical heart cookies.”
Make up by Andrea Baines
“I had noticed in the fashion world, the pairing of pink and red was having a moment and it was one of my favourite colour combinations. When planning with the other suppliers for this shoot, I knew I wanted to combine these two colours to come up with something that felt romantic, girly yet fresh and fun. The makeup had a very retro feel with red lips and fifties flicks, but the flashes of pinks brought it in to the modern day. The idea was to give brides some inspiration for makeup that was a little different from the usual neutral colour palette. Everything tied together so beautifully, and the models really brought the looks to life.”
Hair – Carol Ellis Thompson Bridal Hair
“It was the romantic boho feel that inspired me with the hairstyles. I wanted soft waves and curls to complement the vintage dresses and romantic pink tones in the make up. I styled each models hair to suit each dress, and used hair accessories to finish the style, keeping the hair naturally styled for optimum shine and movement for the shoot. My favourite was the bright pink strawberry crown, it was perfect for the quirky styled shoot.”
Birdie Photobooth
“BABS our pink 1950’s bubble caravan fitted perfectly with the theming, and our quirky light up VW Camper Bar added a bit of quirkiness to the shoot – perfectly complemented by EA’s cake and cookies and SPAI’s styling. A pop of neon, a pink retro telephone, bespoke giant love hearts and whole load of sparkle gave the shoot a more playful edge.”
