Bright, colourful and full of fun for today’s festival themed inspiration at Jimmy’s Farm, Suffolk. If you’re looking for an alternative, relaxed wedding day look that’s eclectic in style then this is the one for you! We catch up with the concept creators Louie of Louie Donovan Photography, Lou of Festival Weddings and Heather of Viva Creative Flower Company and the rest of the team who tell us about the Jimmy’s Farm wedding and give us some top tips along the way for creating the look for your own festival wedding day…
“I chose Jimmy’s Farm for its unique grounds, stretch tent and beautiful herb garden, so many amazing spots for photography. With only one day to shoot in, we opted to use the stretch tent, the outside ceremony arch and the woodland. We had the perfect couple to model for us, knowing they are musicians, I created an inspiration board to incorporate, festivals, music, disco/rock, we wanted a bright beautiful and happy feel to the shoot like our couple.”

“I used natural light, it was a hot and bright day and being in a country / farm setting I felt this was in keeping with the feel for the day. Lou sourced some old records to write on, these can be found in second hand shops, use them as place settings or table plan! To add a disco sparkle to our floristry, we simply purchased disco balls from Amazon!”
Styling – Festival Weddings
“Colour, texture, lighting, sounds and smells all play a big part in making your day an immersive experience. Consider versatile fabrics like home dyed muslin and light reflecting elements like mirrors and glass. To create your concept it’s important to have the right suppliers on board; eg; florists can have very different styles. I use selective contacts to help me create different styles of wedding. I used prop hire places like Anthology Vintage Hire for their peacock chairs and Persian rugs. Try looking at second hand shops for unusual items. Communicating regularly with suppliers makes sure everyone is on the same page with your vision, that’s usually where I come in.”
Flowers – Viva Creative Flower Company
“We used brightly coloured flowers, dyed grasses and foliage all readily available on the market. This banquet table was just calling out for a ‘canopy’ of flowers! An impactive feature which we incorporated with table florals and accessories to complete a fun party tablescape. You can use jars, bottles and small flower posies in coloured vases, you can create a fun centrepiece using vibrant florals, candles, glassware and tableware. Don’t be afraid to embrace a Wedding full of vibrant colour! Take care that your bouquet will not ‘compete’ for the attention, subtle sizing, a simple grouping of florals featured on the dress and choosing one of the main colours for the florals works best for a ‘busy’ dress. For this dress we choose a simple tied grouping of vibrant pink stocks to bring out the beautiful floral detail.”
Venue and Planner – Jimmy’s Farm Weddings / Natalie Solankie Weddings
“Roaming peacocks and rural romance, friends and family witness you say ‘I Do’ in our stunning Celebration Tent, sign the marriage licence in the very charming and intimate handbuilt Eco Roundhouse and drinks enjoyed in the Herb Garden. An unforgettable experience for all with an exclusive afterhours visit into the Wildlife Park, then take time to yourself and stroll through our 200 year old ancient woodland, capturing the first few moments as a married couple. With some of the county’s best produce and our strong ‘Farm to Fork’ ethos, sit back and relax in our 18th century converted barn, enjoying the first meal together. Our 5* Bell Tents, fire pit and marshmallows make for the perfect destination wedding. Just add good vibes, love and a pop of colour for a truly unique, wild and relaxed day.”
Hair – Bridal and Vintage Hair
“My aim as a bridal hairstylist is to help the bride look and feel confident, relaxed and gorgeous for their special day, helping to create the perfect look for them. To achieve this look wash your hair the day before. This helps the style to stay in. I then used a very small styling wand to create small curls which I then stretched and pulled out. Making it as big as possible. This look works well for a bohemian style wedding.” Top Tip: Remember to eat! Breathe! And crack open that champagne!
Makeup – Sue’s All About You
“Without being too obvious, I wanted to do a dramatic look using bold lips almost matching our brides hair- don’t be afraid to do this. If you love it that’s all that matters. The eye makeup, I wanted to accentuate the eyes but avoid that black eye liner look with something a little more subtle.”
Cake – Fifi’s Cakery
Buttercream wedding cakes are as popular as ever with most couples opting for the relaxed über fresh style over more formal intricate wedding cakes. A vibrant buttercream transforms the classic into a contemporary dramatic & playful cake perfect for a rock festival wedding vibe. A simple ruffle in the soft buttercream created using a rounded knife gliding around the surface of the cake gives an elegant look to a rustic design. Bright blooms & ferns were fixed in place on the edge of each cake tier creating a popping cascade of colour & texture to complement the flowers & styling. Try different flavours such as Chocolate & Blueberry, Lemon & Elderflower, Raspberry Bellini. If making your own buttercream cake in the heat of the summer weather, add some meringue powder to the buttercream to absorb any butter that may start to melt & so keep your lofty cake standing tall.”
Festival outfits and accessories – It’s a Festival Ting
“We’re all about glitter, sparkles and embracing the alternative here at IT’S A FESTIVAL TING! Charlotte’s loud hair looked next-level gorgeous in our pink pom-pom jacket and unicorn tinsel number. Weddings are a celebration of life to come and what better way to celebrate than to say it with vibrant colours! The obvious psychology behind bright colours, bold patterns and sparkles are simple, it screams child’s play, fun, expression, and suited our ‘Bride’ so well! Why should it stop with just your decor, sort out an awesome change of outfit for the evening so you can really let go and rave it up into the early hours just we did for our “Bride” Charlotte.”
Bride – Charlotte
“I brought along my late Aunts tambourine, and the florist decorated it with some nice florals, which we used as an alternative of bridal bouquet. I think I would do something like this on my actual wedding, it’s a really nice way to remember her on the day. I had such a great day, it almost felt like my real wedding day! I loved the colours and how much thought went into colour matching my hair!”
