Think modern neon vintage for this styled shoot at Ponden Mill Weddings. A themed shoot and full of inspirational details for all you creative couples out there that are looking for something a little different. Created and styled by Steph Butt Photography and RandR Wedding Events their influences came from 80s pop music. We hear from them and the rest of the creative team to find out how to get this look for your own 1980s neon wedding day…
Inspiration
“We really wanted to give couples an idea that having a themed wedding, doesn’t mean you need to have fancy dress. We invested our time and knowledge into this shoot. To make it as creative as we could be. We are inspired by couples who like something a tad different and who really love the 80s vibes. It was really a team effort to create something out of the box and showcase the venue in a different way. We were influenced by music and 80s Top Of The Pops. We used the logo to be our guide to create this neon wedding shoot.”
“To turn this into reality, it really is all about getting your personality out and not worrying about what others think. This shoot will work well with couples who just want to have a bit of fun. It’s got party vibes and really brings out the atmosphere for the event. You can bring this to life with neons, lots of colour and hints of 80s within your jewellery, styling or invite fonts.”

“Steph’s photography really complimented the shoot. She is great at capturing those happy memories and non-posed shots. It’s all about having fun, and see she has captured this really well with our couple Matt and Lucy. They felt conformable and had smiles all the way through the day.”
Venue
“We loved the venue and knew they would be up for something different. This venue is perfect as it’s a blank space. It allows you to create your own wedding and not just one style. Set in a gorg Yorkshire village right next to a stream, perfect for getting some romantic alone time.”
Styling
Stylist – R and R Wedding Events
“The idea behind the styling was to really focus on lights and colours. It was something we didn’t want to look like fancy dress, so used hints of that theme to give it that retro appeal. The colours of the shoot were inspired by the 80s and Top Of The Pops branding. And it wouldn’t be the 80s unless we had some neons. It’s a great way of looking at your wedding design, where we get inspired by different areas of styling, like fashion, interior and much more!”
The Bride
Bridal – Story of my Dress Bridal
“The idea behind this look was to make it cool and modern. Cara supplied us with this beautiful slip dress which gave us the modern edge to this look. We added some polka dot socks and statement shoes, to give that fun vibe. Jess who made the bespoke veils completed the look, using lots of shoulder pads and the Rachel Green inspired headpiece. It was modern and different. It was the 80s!”
Hair and Makeup – Perfect Silhouette Hairdressing and Ruby J Beauty
“Both Ruby and Robyn worked their magic on our model Lucy. Ruby was influenced by a statement blush. Again this is a great way of adding that 80s style to your day. Ruby was great at making sure the eyes weren’t over the top, covered blue eye shadow. The look is perfect for people who have a theme but still want that bride feel. Robyn then complimented this look with a simple hairstyle, again with that 80s twist. It’s all about not going too over the top with the theme. Lucy looked amazing with your blush and slightly backcombed hair.”
The Details
Florals – Polka Dot Florist
“Amy is a great florist who knows her stuff and what colours work well with the styling. It was important to add florals to this styling to still give it that wedding appeal. She focused more on structured florals and less greenery to give us a more edgy look. The idea of having the meadows of the florals is a great way of reusing your florals and moving them from one area to the next. She used inspiration from bouquets from Princess Diana which shows that 80s style, but with the colours and florals chosen it mixed well to make it more modern.”
Celebrant – Sunkissed Ceremonies
“Hazel was a great choice for this shoot. Her turning up in a sparkly colourful dress and her down to earth personality, was perfect. She makes the couple feel comfortable and provided some great bants. It is important to really get someone who gets you and is also going to make you laugh. It really set the tone for the day and everyone was in stitches.”
Cake – Tasha Sugar Art
“Colour is an important part of this shoot and it didn’t stop at the cake. With a mix of the colour palette, Tasha creates these mouth-watering cakes, which definitely pushes traditional cakes out the window. With the added disco balls and geo shapes, it was amazing to see this against the neon lights. Such a fun way to bring some personality to your day.”
