Fancy a city chic wedding in an unconventional location? If that’s a yes then this inspo is for you! Set at Westbay House in Kent it has all the rustic seaside charm with a city chic vibe all rolled into one. Its quirky modern decor is perfect for achieving city styling and its location adds nostalgia and romance! It’s perfect for a modern 60s look for your wedding day! We catch up with planner and stylist Lily of Lily Jones Events and the rest of the team to find out the inspiration behind the shoot and how you can recreate the look for your own 60s-inspired wedding day…
Inspiration
“Our shoot is all about bringing London city chic vibes to a seaside venue in Kent. We’re finding that a lot of couples are travelling down from London to Kent to get wed due to prices and availability among other things, but we wanted to create an inspirational shoot to show that you really can have it all and have a wedding day full of city chic sophistication and the 60s Carnaby Street look that is so popular right now, but down here by the seaside! The best of both worlds! We wanted to create artsy, runway-esc paparazzi-style images that were reminiscent of 60s-inspired celebrity weddings – London’s equivalent of the Vegas wedding!”
Get The Look
“In order to create a modern take on a 60s style, go for boots over shoes, I absolutely loved these mini white boots and they were perfect for this look. We finished off the fabulous hair and makeup with a large oversized bow and short veil to give that 60s look. I finished off the bridal styling with white heart earrings and some funky white heart-shaped sunglasses. For the groom styling, we used this modern and sophisticated red floral blazer paired with classic trousers and black bow tie for that effortless but modern look.”
“Keep it small – we love a micro-wedding and this style really suits the smaller more intimate elopement type weddings. It makes it look effortless and that you just ran away to get married. Keep it fun! We made sure that every aspect was fun and kept us laughing all the way! From eating pizza and drinking champagne on the floor to an awesome champagne tower and cake smushing! It’s your day so do things that will make you smile and remember it forever.”
The Venue
“West Bay House in Kent is the perfect mix of maximalist décor and rustic seaside charm. Currently, a holiday let, this kooky mansion is just opening up its doors to couples looking for an awesome micro-wedding looking out onto the sea!”
The Dress
“‘Ariana’ is a strapless satin mini dress with a statement vintage bow. We chose Ariana for this shoot as the clean lines and rich ivory satin epitomised the understated elegance of the shoot. Likewise, the oversized, vintage bow detailing to the back of the dress gave a little twist to the dress, to echo the more edgy vibe of the styling. Ariana is a great example of Flamingo Bridal’s ethos; restoring and re-imagining preloved and vintage dresses to create a completely new, unique dress. Ariana started as a rather dated, fishtail wedding dress. We shortened her and removed the straps to create a more modern shape. The raw silk bow that creates such a fabulous detail at the back was rescued from a full-on 1980s, ‘meringue’ and given a whole new lease of life bringing Ariana bang up to date with the current trend for all things bows!”
Hair and Makeup
“I knew, as soon as I saw the mood board that this was a shoot I wanted to be part of. Combining the city chic style with coastal beauty. Creating new modern-day bridal looks inspired by the past. I love recycling and elevating classic looks for the modern bride. I also love that Lily gave all of us suppliers, creative freedom and trusted our experience and knowledge to create something so fun and magical. My forte in hair and makeup is natural bridal glamour. I create bespoke luxury bridal looks that enhance the bride’s beauty in the best way. No two brides will look the same.”
Flowers
“The bridal bouquet needed to be elegant and effortless. Pairing white roses with ranunculus gave us clean fine lines and a blousy texture. With both flower varieties being so bold, we didn’t need another flower. Our bride wasn’t always going to hold her bouquet in a traditional fashion, so layering the roses and ranunculus lightly on top of one another, creating lots of depth and texture, allowed the petals to unfold beautifully at all angles.”
Cake
“Lily wanted to do a small elopement style shoot so I went with a single-tier cake, It’s not something I get to do much so it was a great opportunity to showcase how even just one cake can still have a ‘wow factor’ to it. As the colour palette featured black, white, and grey I decided I wanted to keep it simple, classy and modern. Lily was keen to have a square cake and I went with all black with a gold monogram. It fits perfectly with the style and class of the shoot!”
