We recently have been working with a wedding venue in Cheshunt, Herfordshire to help launch their new ceremony space. Halsey Hall has a great reception hall used for all types of events including weddings, but they also have a unique room upstairs with a domed ceiling covered in gold stars and zodiac motifs set against a navy blue background. A truly celestial vibe – so much so that we have named it The Celestial Temple. It has blue velvet cinema style sets around each side meaning your wedding ceremony can be “in the round” – an unusual seating plan but one that means that every guest gets to see the action. We have created a shoot to show it off in blues and peach tones; today we catch up with key wedding businesses involved who share their inspiration with us today…
The Venue
Halsey Hall is a masonic lodge, 30 minutes from London on the train. It has a large hall with chandeliers and wooden floors, making the perfect reception space for 120 guests. They have in house caterers and a fully stocked bar; everything you need. But it also has this magical space for your wedding ceremony – it is quirky and we love it! It is not licensed so you will need to hire a wedding celebrant which is ideal as they an create you a personal ceremony aligning to your values and vision. We worked with Debra Massey for this shoot.
The Celebrant: Hand On Heart Celebrant
“I am always excited by venues with personality and charm. Halsey Hall has a unique character and fascinating history, especially in the ceremony room! The chequered floor creates dramatic space, providing staging options for any bespoke ceremony. Bordered by chairs on 3 sides, guests can join the couple in a circle of love as they are included in symbolic actions, such as handfasting, beneath the mighty blue ceiling, decorated with constellations.
A loving cup shared between the couples, as guests join them in a toast is another enrichment opportunity. Grandeur of design enables the couple space for intimate moments such as sharing vows, whilst the raised area provides a focal point for readers in a captivating, magical setting. A fascinating room with potential to deliver mystical charm to any ceremony.”
The Photography: Helen Weir
‘For the couple that loves a venue with the flexibility to add her personal stamp and the appeal of a quirky ceremony room that guests will talk about long after, Halsey Hall in Cheshunt is the perfect place. My recent styled shoot here showcased its unique charm. With my vibrant and romantic photography style, I captured the enchanting spaces available for couples on their big day. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team of suppliers, every detail was meticulously planned, resulting in stunning images that beautifully reflect the potential magic of your wedding at Halsey Hall.”
The Flowers: Darling Buds
“Picking up on the celestial theme and midnight blue decorated ceiling, using the tall elegant delphinium was my first flower choice, complementing perfectly the Fuzzy peach tones of roses, and statement Gerberas, the orangey ranunculus and blush hypericum berries added texture to the larger blooms and scented apricot stock’s were the perfect last touch for this selection. A loose bouquet with Eucalyptus and pittosporum for the bride and a new style pocket boutonnière for the groom, perfection.”

“I started with a primer to give a smooth base and the Arbonne one together with the Perfecting Liquid foundation are a great duo. This gives great buildable coverage which is light wearing but long lasting and has a nice dewy finish. I used peachy pink tones in the cheeks and eyes which are perfect for her complexion and also with the colours of the wedding. Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk is a great lip colour which I chose for her with a little gloss on top. After ringing the hair, I combed through to make them more waves than curls and then twisted a half up style around the beautiful headpiece.”
Hankies: Extra Special Touch
The perfect accessory or gift to dry away your happy tears! We added a blue embroidered moon to compliment the theme as well as the table linens.
Table Styling
Halsey Hall provides linens, crockery and glassware that you can then style however you want. We added personal linen by The Embroidered Napkin Company which can embroider any motif that you want; a popular choice being the couple’s initials. We chose a blue moon to continue the celestial theme into the reception. Darling Buds added bud vases and filled them with beautiful flowers in blues and peaches. The menu cards continued the theme, showcasingthe fabulous food that the venue provides.
Drapes and Lights: Blue Mark Entertainment
The hall is a blank canvas but you may choose to add drapes to create a more intimate feel. We added strings of fairy lights to continue the vision and make the hall feel magical. They worked really well with the chandeliers too.
The Cake: KKakes
The cake design was inspired by the ceremonial room and stair case of Halsey Hall. The room has a blue ceiling with stars on and blue velvet seats around each wall making the ceremony space square. It is quite unusual and with celestial vibes with an old staircase leading to it, that is a bit 70s retro. So I created a textured 4 tier, subtle marble effect in ganache. The edges were imperfect and almost crumbling but still smooth a node to the velvet seats. The blue colours with a delicate brush stroke of gold reflects the ceiling of the ceremonial room. Bringing it a modern feel and elegance, I finished the cake with a striking wafer paper ruffles in the pantone colour of the year – Fuzzy Peach and to complete the look, the cake sat on a glass pedestal stand.
The Dress: Bridal Reloved
“We chose a pre loved dress from Bridal Reloved in Peterborough; choosing this design for its simplicity and modern feel. The sequins mirror little stars continuing the theme. This was teamed up with blue shoes by Joanie Clothing to add a bit of fun and colour and finished with celestial accessories by Garter and Veil.”
Balloons: Delarose Events
For a perfect photo backdrop we chose a balloon display in a moon shape with all the key colours from the shoot. The addition of a neon sign creates the perfect selfie wall for all your guests.
