Set against the enchanting backdrop of Bill Miller’s Castle in Branford, Connecticut, this inspirational shoot brings a beloved fairytale to life with an elegant, modern twist. Led by Krista Jones, shoot coordinator and stylist from Whimsically You, it captures the ethereal beauty and timeless romance of Snow White reimagined for the contemporary bride… and it’s just in time for the release of the classic 2025 remake itself, how’s that for luck ; ) With the castle’s rustic stone walls, rich wooden beams, and grand architecture setting the stage, every detail unfolds like a page from a storybook. From the Snow White Bride’s delicate grace to whimsical, nature-inspired decor, this shoot is a fairytale dream come true…
“We wanted to reimagine the Snow White tale through a fresh, empowering lens with this inspiration – one where strength, fairness, and kindness are valued more than appearances. We also wanted to show how you can lean into the whimsical aspect of a theme (e.g. softening the colour palette, highlighting woodland creatures) and find unique ways to bring in more classic components (e.g. mirrors). Every element, from the hammered flatware (a nod to the dwarves) to the stained glass motifs, ties back to the story in a way that’s playful yet sophisticated. In addition, we really wanted to showcase interactive components. Guests aren’t just watching; they’re part of the magic. From revealing a hidden message in disappearing ink to bringing a magic mirror to life – as they solve a fairytale mystery, every detail invites them to play. It’s a wedding that’s enchanting in every sense of the word.”
“Bill Miller’s Castle in Connecticut is made for couples who want their wedding to feel like an experience. It’s a space that tells a story, from the antique wood and stained glass windows to the roaring fireplaces and sweeping staircase. And there are serious surprises around every corner, with so many incredible little nooks and alcoves filled with character. The venue balances romance and grandeur. It’s perfect for couples who love castlecore, fantasy, or medieval aesthetics but want a space that feels warm and welcoming rather than overly formal. The castle is an incredible location for couples wanting a wedding with storybook charm, like our shoot. But it also works for other themes, whether you’re leaning into dark academia, fantasy-inspired, or gothic. I don’t think there’s anywhere else like it, and it’s definitely a venue your loved ones will never forget!”
“To achieve this vibe, mix whimsy with elegance for a feel that’s playful but sophisticated. Start with a softened Snow White palette: pastel blues, yellows, blushes, and metallic accents. Layer in antique-style mirrors, stained glass, and natural elements like woodland creatures, moss, and florals. If 3D stained glass elements aren’t in the budget, you can still incorporate the look in your signage and other paper elements (like the florals on the shoot invitations). Don’t forget surprising interactive elements for that extra bit of magic: like a wax-sealed clue, escort cards that reveal a secret when warmed, or a “magic mirror” moment. The goal? Make your wedding feel like stepping into a living storybook, an experience your guests will never forget! For personal styling, choose a corset and/or basque-waist gown for that storybook feel, paired with delicate accessories like floral headpieces or crystal tiaras. For extra drama, consider a coloured gown!”
How Can Couples Turn This Theme Into Reality?
“Start with the atmosphere. Choose a venue with rustic charm, medieval grandeur, or natural beauty, like a woodland clearing or a castle. Then, pick a defining element or two that speaks to you and the vibe you want – maybe it’s Snow White’s connection to nature or the drama of Castlecore. Next, build layers. For a romantic, dreamy ambience, keep colours soft, but don’t be afraid of texture to make the space feel rich and storied. Remember: fairy-tale magic isn’t just about aesthetics! It’s about the feeling of wonder. Create unexpected moments for your guests through an interactive seating chart with hidden clues, a mirror that comes to life, uniquely personalised favours, or other surprising and engaging facets. Get creative! Above all, make it personal – a fairy tale that’s uniquely yours. Don’t be afraid to incorporate additional aspects of your passions, values, or story to blend with your themed elements.”
Planning Advice
“Selecting the right photographer is all about finding someone who truly gets your vibe and embraces your creative vision. Look for a professional whose portfolio showcases themed, quirky, or unconventional weddings that resonate with your aesthetic preferences (light & airy, dark & moody, editorial, etc.). Review full galleries – not just the highlights – to see how they capture candid moments, the unique essence of each event, or whatever is most important to you! Schedule consultations to discuss your ideas and see if they’re excited about the elements that make your wedding unique. Consider feedback from past couples to ensure a smooth, engaging experience on your big day. When you find someone whose style speaks to you, trust your instincts. The right photographer will understand your theme, make you feel at ease, infuse personality into each shot, and help translate your whimsical ideas into timeless images.” – Love Long and Prosper Photography
“Have an open mind and communicate with your bridal shop when booking AND shopping. Not all whimsical gowns look that way on the rack, so it’s important to share your inspiration when booking your visit! Ask questions about the inventory and price range. When shopping, share gowns you like and ask your salesperson for help creating your vision. Communicate your budget, noting that trend-forward styles (like basque waists and corsets this season) can be higher priced; they are newer they may not be available to purchase as a sample (which is a common way to purchase bridal gowns at a discount).” – Megan Dumaine The Wedding Embassy
“Find a designer that creates & enjoys creating the vibe you’re looking for & trust them to use their artistic ability to deliver incredible results!” – Taylor Ferguson New Leaf Florals
“Your wedding day is *the* day to feel your absolute best, and that starts with flawless hair and makeup. From getting ready shots to the first kiss, you deserve to look and feel like a goddess. But here’s the catch: top bridal hairstylists and makeup artists book up fast, especially for popular dates and peak seasons. To ensure your dream look, aim to book 9-12 months in advance. The sooner you secure your glam squad, the more time you’ll have to customize your style, whether it’s a soft, glowing look or bold bridal queen vibes. With the right team, your hair and makeup will be picture-perfect from every angle, ensuring your wedding photos are as stunning as the day itself.” – Brenna Tierney and Pam Grazuna PG Beauty Bar
“Your invitations should set the stage for your wedding. Forget mass-produced designs and seek out a designer who understands your vision. Explore portfolios that showcase non-traditional themes. Look for styles that resonate with yours, even if you don’t see exactly what you have in mind. A skilled designer can translate your wildest ideas onto paper. You might want subtle nods, elegant Easter eggs, and design choices that whisper your fandom love instead of shouting it from the rooftops (but, if you want to shout – we can do that, too!). Don’t hesitate to ask about inclusivity. Look for transparent pricing and a collaborative process. They should guide you through customization, offering expert advice while respecting your individuality. Your invitations should be a genuine reflection of you. Find someone who prioritizes understanding your story and bringing it to life, ensuring your invitations are as unique as your wedding.” – Kelly Heuss Uniquely Inviting
“I love content creation because it humanizes art, making it more accessible while also romanticizing the little details in a personal way. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, just like with photography and videography, but its casual nature adds a raw, authentic perspective to a couple’s special day. The key to great content creation is clear communication with your vendors, whether you prefer a fly-on-the-wall documentary style or something more trend-focused. Whatever balance you’re looking for, your vendor team is there to bring your vision to life.” Fatima Izzat Photography
