Beach weddings aren’t just for exotic destinations abroad and this real wedding of Luke and Hannah proves just that! Set on Sheringham Beach, Norfolk in September last year, like many, it was a different wedding day from what they envisaged and planned. Instead of waiting to get married, the couple decided to re-arrange their whole wedding and go for a more intimate beach ceremony and a garden reception. Small but beautiful nonetheless, and full of personal details to take inspiration from. We catch up with the couple to hear about their intimate beach wedding day…
The Proposal
“I proposed on the 20th March 2019, our business had just been shut down due to lockdown and it was my birthday. Luckily we were going away for a night in the Cotswolds. I on the whim made a Lego ring and whilst in the hot tub drowning our sorrows in champagne and enjoying the starry sky asked Hannah to marry me. She said YES”
Planning the Wedding
“We originally booked a large venue in Norfolk but due to the changes decided to shrink this down and move the venue to my parent’s house. We kept the wedding intimate close friends/family, prioritised getting two-d photography and our Celebrant Jamie. Who we loved from the moment we met her.”
The Venue
“My parents front garden in Sheringham tucked away from the hustle-bustle of the town. The reception was in a marquee, very simple. My mother is a local florist and decorated the marquee with incredible flowers and table ornaments.”
The Details
“I’m not your typical suit guy. So I researched braces and bow ties and found a cute independent called Francis Louise UK. I wanted something with a little jazz! The bridesmaids were from Monsoon and were all the same colour and style but each one could be slightly customised to the individual.
Hannah says; My dress was from Butterworth bridal in Bedford. I put the dress on and just immediately cried and knew from that moment. We decided not to have a cake but we had lots of flowers which were done by my mum’s business The Passion of Flowers. Clare Johns reiki healer and ceremony facilitator held a cacao blessing for our wonderful beach ceremony too!
Ethical Elements
“We had a vegan catering company. The idea behind the wedding was to be as minimal as possible, from the venue as a simple marquee in my parents home. My mother grew the flowers for bouquets and table displays. All cups/crockery, tables and chairs were all hired so non-disposable. Where we could we reuse in an attempt to manage costs but also limit our impact on waste.”
The Best Part of the Day
“The beach ceremony was just amazing and easeful. The sun was glorious, there was virtually no one there, it allowed us to take our time and be in the moment. Plus the photos are just epic.”
Words of Wisdom
“Do what makes you happy. It’s your day. Less is more. Lose the frills and make it personal and about you. Your guests if they truly love you then they are only coming for you.”
