With rustic styling, desserts galore and an array of tipis we catch up with shoot coordinator and photographer Crissi Palmer of Captured by Crissi and the rest of the team involved who tell us all about it…
“I wanted to create a relaxed and fun environment that stepped away from the idea of a traditional wedding and embraced the idea of ‘doing your day, your way’. I love outdoor weddings and felt it was the perfect setting to let my ideas come to life. When I got married (many years ago!) we were quite young and found ourselves making a lot of compromises for what our families wanted. As much as we loved our day, it didn’t truly feel like ours and we have been planning a vow renewal ever since.”
“Putting your own spin on your wedding is much more common now, which is wonderful, and I wanted to showcase it and help encourage others to put their own individuality into their day.”
“It started off with visions of a couple wrapped in a blanket toasting a marshmallow over a fire and it grew from there. Adding sparklers into the mix was a no brainer, as the evenings are starting to draw in, why not make the most of it and have some fun? Autumn is my favourite time of the year. I adore the range of colours, the crisp air and bonfire night! It felt right to draw inspiration from our surroundings for this shoot, which is why the colours used are so rich and varied. I also kept the décor quite simple as I didn’t want to draw attention away from the floral arrangements.”

[line]“The shoot took place at Blacknest Golf and Country Club. During wedding season they erect their beautiful ‘Woodland Tipi’. Based on the Hampshire/Surrey border, it is a hidden gem ideal for couples who want to spend the majority of their wedding outside.”
Styling- Black Diamond Weddings
“Relaxed Autumnal vibes with deep vibrant colours, rich tones, metallics and lots of texture. I created this look by using antique gold lanterns, burgundy candles and tealights, log slices, natural linen runners and coloured pheasant feathers. The look was matched with beautiful florals and greenery garlands which we worked into the design of the tables, entrance and pergola. For the ceremony I used lanterns, blankets and dressed the area with the florist creating a stunning backdrop with greenery garlands and rich burgundy draping.”
“Complementing styling items were used with the large tipi outside, children’s tipi’s and the rustic dessert table. As well as styling I also brought along some giant garden games and some stunning Eco Festival Glitter. The finished look was relaxed, warm and inviting with opulent colours and textures perfect for Autumn weddings.”

My style of photography is relaxed and natural, which suits a wedding like this perfectly. I wanted to just capture the couple enjoying being together and having fun. I don’t believe in posing couples, a sit doesn’t really reflect their day or their relationship. We were blessed with a beautiful autumn day, which meant we could make a real feature of the ceremony and garden games, as well as get some stunning sunset photos.”
Bridal
“I wanted the bridal outfits to reflect the general feel of the day; so traditional gowns were definitely not an option. I opted for a couple of outfits from Boohoo and the couple chose from them – both opted for beautiful maxi dresses. I’m really glad that this is how we went about choosing outfits, as I cannot stress how important it is to be comfortable in what you are wearing, whether it fits into others ideas of a wedding or not. We completed the look with a beautiful cape for the ceremony and gorgeous, hand-painted leather jackets for the cooler evening weather.”
Flowers- Janet Mary Floral Designs
“Inspired by the warmth of bonfires the flowers were of rich, deep colours with varying textures and were complemented by both wispy and structured foliage in mixed greys. Vibrant focal flowers of orange calla lillies, red hot pokers and dark sunflowers in the bridal bouquet were nestled against spray roses, crocosmia, antirrhinum and amaranthus with dusty grey mimosa, eucalyptus and silvery grevilea. The bouquet was finished with a trailing naturally dyed silk velvet ribbon in a luxurious amber shade. A relaxed bridal hoop was made from dried red cornus stems and adorned with mixed silver grey foliages, spray roses, dahlias and grasses.”
“Fresh mixed foliage garlanding of lush soft ruscus, berried eucalyptus, myrthus and mimosa dressed the guest tables. Continuing the colour through to the ceremony large arrangements were placed at the foot of the gazebo with further foliage garlanding to dress the top and rails.”
Cake- Cakes by Tamsin
“The cake was inspired by the gorgeous autumnal colour pallet shared by the organiser. I wanted to create a bold statement cake incorporating both dried grasses, fresh blooms and some pheasant feathers to add an extra dimension. The copper detailing around both tiers adds an elegance to the cake. Coloured wedding cakes are a fabulous way to step away from the norm and create something unique and personal for couples on their big day.”
Hair- Christianas
“As both models had beautifully coloured hair, the chosen hairstyles really showed it off. Christiana went for a festival/boho look on both brides.”
Make Up – Rachel Maslin
“The makeup inspiration for this shoot was mostly theme lead, so the autumnal colours, nontraditional vibe and so on, taking into account other colours that would be appearing throughout the shoot. Many traditional looks are very classically natural looking so I was keen to try something bolder, which as soon as I saw the models, I knew they would suit. The warm tones, golden eyeshadows and bold, deep red lips were a nod to the bonfire and autumnal theming finished off with a flutter of lashes!”
Bell tents
“Beautiful Bell tents can create the perfect retreat for you and your guests on your wedding day. Whether they are used as temporary accommodation for your bridal party or as a stylish chill out zone, you can create a space that reflects your ideology. Top tip- why not add floral vines or bunting and fairy lights on the guy ropes to add that extra wow-factor and elegance. The use of Bell tents will not only make your wedding individual and memorable, they offer the flexibility and versatility to cater for any theme. Worried about the weather? Indoor Teepees can deliver the same enchanting experience! Whatever the theme, wherever the venue a Bell tent and indoor Teepees make the perfect addition to any wedding”
Your Guest Canvas- Cedars Yard
“Join contemporary artist Emma as we invite your guests to help paint an abstract canvas for your home. Laughter, nostalgia, conversation and competition, a new twist on a guest book. o I really wanted to feature a new and interesting activity for weddings, so when this popped up I knew it was fate. I absolutely love the idea of having your guests create a piece of totally unique artwork for you to display proudly within your home. It acts as a wonderful time filler for that ‘quiet’ part of the day, a conversation starter and a wonderful memory for you and your guests.”
