Ultra Violet has now been named Pantone colour of the year for 2018, and has rapidly filtered through wedding inspiration and themes alike. Purple is a colour that can be used in many different ways from its dark and moody shades, to its vibrant bursts. If you love the colour you can find a shade that fits with your theme perfectly. Whether that be in colour of your bridal gown, a pop of colour in your florals or a full on purple theme that runs completely throughout your wedding day styling.
Here we chat to Amber and Dolly of GiDo Weddings, who have given us some #Rockthepurplelove inspiration on how to run the colour throughout your wedding day styling for a modern, clean, and uber cool look.
“The idea of #ROCKTHEPURPLELOVE photoshoot was created on today’s trends by Amber & Dolly, who owns GiDo Weddings. We wanted to create a different look that would reflect on today’s trends and we were looking for an indoors location that would have a touch of contemporary details to create a moody and rich picture – all about the drama.”
“Asylum Chapel, based in London, was a perfect venue for the shoot. Its original décor, stained-glass windows and the fact that venue welcomes same sex partnership, as we recreated a same sex marriage shoot allowed us to fulfil the vision we had.
Our vision came as soon as we saw the venue – to create drama, to keep it modern but do not forget romance. We wanted both of our models to have different looks and therefore one of the models had a more romantic, soft look with dreamy elements in comparison to the other model’s look, it was more bold, modern and elegant. Choosing the dresses was easy Sienna Von Hildemar was a perfect designer as her work speaks for itself.”
“We created an urban and simplistic look where we included unique textures, unexpected uses and types of floral arrangements and greenery. We had some marble accents mixed together with metallic copper, and used geometry, including the ultra violet pantone colour of 2018 and today’s trends for the sweet table. We provided the idea of what the inspiration was and the look we wanted to achieve, so this allowed collaborating suppliers to bring their own imaginative ideas to the shoot.”
Florals
“The Asylum Chapel is such an iconic and mesmerising venue, with weathered walls and low light levels through stained glass windows. I wanted to use very bold flowers and foliage. The brief was lots of green with the Pantone colour of 2018, Ultra violet. I chose dramatic, structural flowers such as tall Liatris, shiny, tropical Anthuriums, frilled tulips, writhing Clematis & fragrant sweet peas. I also added a contrast with the deep red Black Barracca rose.”
“To complement the flowers I used large dramatic, deep green tropical leaves such as Monstera, Philodendron, with lighter feathery Umbrella and Asparagus fern. I love to work with a loose, slightly asymmetrical style, which creates texture, movement and interest within the bouquets, copper arch. Succulents are still very popular this season, and silvery/purple ones were added to the foliage table runner, along with Dianthus ‘Moonlite’ to add movement and colour to the display.”
Jewellery
“For this bridal project I wanted to surprise the wearer, hence choosing non traditional bridal white but bright colours which would go well with bridal flower bouquet, green for the greenery and purple to go with the blooms. Long tassels add wow factor, and hand embroidery with Swarovski pearl and crystal beads on the metal lace brings out the touch of vintage glamour. Choosing head jewellery instead of the necklace in one of the sets, again, continues to brighten the jewellery with a little surprise.”
Hair
“As an eternal dreamer, the old and mystic atmosphere of the Asylum chapel combined with these magic purple’s decorations gave me a feel of a fairy tale. To me, a braid can bring some fantasy in any hairstyle. You see them in Lord of the rings, Game of Thrones, therefore I chose to incorporate braids in both of the hairstyles. Lina had incredibly long hair and wore beautiful goddess accessories, it was the occasion to create a majestic look with long and imposing plaits. This hairstyle is also safe and long lasting for such a long and heavy hair. I chose a half up/half down hairstyle for Leila to compliment her soft strappy dress. The beach waves with the loose twits create a modern and boho look that enhances her long earrings. Their purple colour pops in the middle of her dark hair and the thin braids mixed with the waves add a little touch of fantasy.”
Cake
“Purple, copper, marble are this year’s fashionable colors for weddings and cake decorations, so I used them to decorate the table and cakes. As it was an indoor shoot, I wanted to have an urban-green theme and bring a bit of outside-inside. This was extended to nature, which could be seen in the geode décor on the cakes, the marble effect and the copper tones. I also went for simplicity by limiting the display to 3 colours to make it flow nicely.”
