Some luxe barn wedding inspiration today, set at South Farm Hertfordshire, with a team of award winning suppliers – it’s the perfect mix of juxtaposing themes, with luxury details set amongst the beautiful rustic backdrop of the barn. We catch up with Tracy Butterfield, Founder of Four Counties Wedding Awards (awards we actively support – they are local to us and our founder, Kate has been a judge f0r 5 years) and the rest of the team to find out all about their award winning collaboration…
“This shoot is for the winners of the Four Counties Wedding Awards and each year I bring all category winners together to create a creative styled shoot. We hold the shoot at the venue winners location and encourage everyone to work together, with their inputs of styles and themes. Even though in the real world they might never work together at weddings! This year the winners are from Herts, Beds, and Cambs. It is a great collaboration that starts the process for future real wedding collaborations, encourages community and a great day of creativity.”
“Vanessa Harness (winner of the wedding planning category), Cat Lane (winner of the photography category) and I worked through the ideas that would bring the vast array of different suppliers together and came up with Country Life Heritage – we decided to showcase the barn venue in a different way so we planning on using areas that we usually not seen, such as the kitchen garden.”
“Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side that day so all the outside plans were out! We held the whole shoot inside the main Horse Barn. We even used the toilets for some purple lighting shots.”
Styling – The White Emporium
“Florals were the main focus with some fab furniture from Hall & Co with a tablescape and dessert table styled by The White Emporium. The dessert table held the main wedding cake, cupcakes, iced cookies and an array of savoury delights; cheeses, nuts, grapes, crackers, wine and port. The styling details incorporated modern touches mixed with vintage and romantic pieces. We used colour pops to give the look vibrancy. Place settings were layered with patterned plates and gold and silver highlights contrasted perfectly. The flowers were a bold statement and the styling needed to compliment the movement of the oversized installations. South Farm is a beautiful venue and I loved mixing the soft ethereal pinks and creams with the moodier berry tones and dark furniture pieces.”
Bridal- Townhouse Bridal Rachel Lamb Design
“The strapped dress is from Townhouse Bridal an off the peg retailer – the dress was by Romantica. The strapless dress is a bespoke piece by Rachel Lamb Bridal.”
Flowers- The Flower Story
“To tie in with the heritage theme I wanted a flower palette that looked as if it was taken from a Dutch master painting. I love this luxe natural look and it worked perfectly with the Spring, early Summer flowers. Think garden roses with hundreds of scrunchy petals, blousy double tulips and delicate spiraea. The colour palette was a rich one packed full of tones of yellow, peach, red, rich purples and the odd pop of blue.”
“The cascade bouquet was full of garden roses, hellebores, fritillaria, lilac, allium, ranunculus, clematis, spiraea and finished with gold silk velvet ribbons from Little Acorn Silks.”
“The groom’s pocket square used the most delicate flowers from the flower palette. Tiny ranunculus buds, astrantia, muscari and delicate leaves were used for a fashion forward alternative to a buttonhole. As a fun additional we secured the same tiny flowers into the cut of his hair to match a sensational floral collar for the bride.”
Cake- Lyndsey Pemberton
“A three tiered smooth finish to our main wedding cake with a cascade of stunning sugar flowers in blush and rich burgundies to match the real flowers used throughout the shoot. A mix of roses and tied with a silk ribbon matching the bouquet. Cute creamy vanilla buttercream cupcakes topped with a cream rose and leaves and iced vanilla cookies.”
Menswear- Chimney Menswear
“The 3 piece suit in green is an olive tweed window pane check suit by Skopes worn with a Knightbridge Neckwear gold and burgundy paisley tie. The textured waistcoat in Wine with a contrast vintage car decorated back and trim from LA Smith worn with the olive tweed window pain check trousers from Skopes.”
Hair- Kim Sandford Hairdressing
“Classic and chic this sleek low chignon is the epitome of timeless elegance and a personal favourite of Kim’s. A structured hairstyle like this is a statement and works well against the softer pretty elements of the dress and flowers.”
Accessories- Rachel Sokhal Bridal
“Bridal accessories and jewellery all from a range of bespoke and custom pieces by Rachel Sokhal Bridal Accessories.”
“We also used a soft blush velvet embroidered Roxy Rose jacket from Bowen Dryden to add texture and Country Life Heritage style.”
“Unlike a lot of styled shoots we use all categories of the awards including the music category – so we had Sam Lewis playing his guitar and singing to keep the bride and groom and us entertained. The couple also used the photobooth from Mirror Image.”
“The bride and groom (Annalisa and Matthew) are actually previous clients of the photographer and they married at the same venue in October 2018.”
