Today we catch up with Lauren Delpech, the talented designer and baker behind French Made to hear more about the rustic wedding trend and which cakes to choose if you are embracing this style.
“Relaxed barn weddings decorated with nature-inspired items such as mason jars, lace, branches and lanterns have been very popular for a few years. More and more brides have moved away from traditional ‘ballroom’ white weddings to embrace this rustic chic look. Most of them have gone for beautiful airy, vintage-inspired champagne coloured dresses and wilder, looser, more organic looking bouquets incorporating greenery, spiky blooms
and even berries. Well, good news guys, this trend is predicted to be very strong still in 2016.
So today, I would like to concentrate on rustic inspired wedding cakes, covered in buttercream rather than sugar paste but also naked cakes which particularity being no fondant, just homemade, scrummy sponge based cakes that expose the delicious flavours inside. This type of cakes are much more versatile that one might think both flavour and look wise. They could be square, round, vanilla, chocolate, carrot, coffee, filled with yummy
jams and fluffy buttercream, you name it! They can be decorated with seasonal fruit and flowers but also herbs such as rosemary and lavender, ribbon, lace, the possibilities are just as endless as a more ‘traditional’ looking cake.
Here are some examples to inspire you.
