Bridal – Marie Chandler Bridal

“When Toni suggested a celestial theme for our shoot it couldn’t have come at a better time, I had just finished watching Stardust for the millionth time and was swooning over how gorgeous Clare Danes medieval silver dress is in that movie. I felt inspired by the flowing silver silk and it tied in beautifully with a design from our new collection about to launch at Marie Chandler Bridal.”

“We created a bias cut silk 1930s inspired gown with a flowing train and a long tulle cape falling from Hayley’s shoulders. The cape finished with sequin stars to add our glitter element. We paired it perfectly with gorgeous head pieces by Twin Flame Styling and deep purple heals.”

Groom

“For groom Carlos we wanted to create a look with a bit of character, we found a fabulous rich purple velvet suit which complimented the brides outfit and later swapped it for an amazing celestial embroidered jacket from ASOS.”

Hair and Make-up – Toni Searle Beauty

“I’d wanted to do a glitter look for a while, so when Hayley put up a post also wanting this it was the perfect opportunity! After some discussion, the shoot evolved into a celestial theme, which is right up my street.”

“I get asked for a lot of warm tones and colours, so I opted for cooler colours which also matched the beautiful dress Marie made. I wanted to keep the skin sheer and dewy and focus on glitter standing out. I also got to use my favourite bright pink lipstick which no one fancies trying – so if you do like it, let me use it on you! It’s perfect for a party look. I kept the hair in a loose, modern style so the amazing head piece would sit well in the hair – I loved it!”

Styling- Marie Chandler Bridal and Twin Flame Styling

“When Toni (HMUA) & Hayley (model) suggested a celestial theme I – after being inspired by Stardust – wanted to create something that worked well around the silver of the dress.”

“We created a mood board that brought in elements of silver, with deep burgundies, purples and mauve’s, drawing on all the beautiful colours of the galaxy, then incorporating masses of candles for atmosphere and hints of stars.”

“We brought on board Jess from Twin Flame Styling who not only gave us two beautiful hand made headpieces for Hayley to wear, but also her stunning collection of crystals, candelabras and table dressings. Eddie at Edwina Camm Illustration created us some gorgeous origami stars, and stationary for the table to really bring the celestial theme together.”

Floristry- Peonies From Pluto

When I was approached to take part in this celestial styled shoot, there was no way I could turn it down. I wanted to put a spin on it though – many of the cosmic themed shoots I have seen use beautiful, deep maroons and navy blues as a main colourway.  I decided to take inspiration from the brighter colours found in our universe, such as nebulas and the atmospheric clouds from those images.  The shapes and colours of these allowed me to experiment with a wild a free form for the bouquet and piano flowers, whilst the cloud of gypsophila took on a more spherical shape to imitate a planet.”

Cake – Tiny Sarah’s Cakes

“The idea behind the cake was to make something poetic and different, with a white and ethereal vibe to echo the venue. We’ve all seen galaxy or starry cakes, but who thinks of these little people who have to light up the stars every night? And because poetic was the word to go by, I chose a beautiful quote from the movie Stardust, and hand-painted it on the cake.”

Venue- Lovekyn Chapel

“Lovekyn Chapel was perfect for this celestial shoot because it has incredible ceilings that just have you looking up towards the stars, and beautiful stained glass windows which worked perfectly with the colour scheme. As Lovekyn is a medieval chapel built in 1309, it provided a gorgeous texture and interesting backdrop, yet also inspired the team because it is no longer used for religious ceremonies, meaning everyone can enjoy its uplifting space, whatever the ceremony.”

“So, we really wanted to have an edgy, moody yet romantic feel to the shoot, so I shot a mixture of softer romantic images by candlelight, and some slightly more “serious” images in the cooler light. It was really important to me to make sure that we captured all the little heartfelt details that gave it a romantic feel, and that can be easily realised by any engaged couple Iooking to add these kinds of touches to their day.”

“It was also important to me that we also had a balance of images between both of our models, as so often the groom is overlooked. The images are gritty crossed with soft, and muted whilst still retaining the bold colours, which hopefully gives a good feeling of the atmosphere, a sense of intensity, and the mysticism of the crystals, the stars and the history of ceremony space.”
