Nothing says Christmas more than the colours red and white and of course a candy cane or two. With a nostalgic vibe that’s full of festive details, this destination Christmas wedding set in Rapid City South Dakota, USA will give you a warm holiday season feel! We catch up with coordinator Justin Straw Designs who tells us a bit more about the shoot and gives you some advice for your own wedding planning and on how to create this festive look…
“The holidays are of course already an amazing time of year. I always feel so inspired by all the flowers and decorations that come with the festive time of year so I wanted to create something that encompasses all those things and more. It shows couples that a traditional Christmas wedding can most definitely be brought into the 21st century. To create this look pick your favourite things that remind you of Christmas; for me, that’s candy canes, evergreen greenery, and the colours red and white remind me of everything Christmas! I also wanted to incorporate some Christmas drinks and bring in some more obvious Christmas items too, including wedding candies that guests could enjoy throughout the celebration! You shouldn’t be afraid to be a little daring with your theme on your wedding day. Be that your decorations or your wedding day look. It could be that great pop of colour or that makeup that really elevates your wedding photos.”
“We loved the idea of having two looks for this wedding. Our more traditional look was a beautiful strapless dress that we layered on top of a sheer long-sleeve bodysuit. For her reception dress, we wanted something fun and flirty with a holiday vibe so went for a beautiful alternative red applique dress. For the hair and make up we loved the idea of mixing it up. The hair was beautifully soft and natural which we juxtaposed with lots of drama in the makeup. A sequin glitter eye and a red lip was the perfect look!”
“I wanted the flowers to be statement pieces to match the vibe. I created a modern shape bouquet but used flowers that created a feeling of Christmas nostalgia. These were then followed through the styling of the tablescape. For the rest of the details, we wanted to use the theme quite literally. We used our beautiful Christmas candy and ornaments as our inspiration for the cake and the stationery was kept simple. A clean and classic look that would incorporate beautifully with all our holiday decorations”
