Some fairground fun at Dreamland Margate Kent, for today’s wedding inspiration. It takes us back to childhood with its merry-go-rounds and seaside vibes. With a mix of pastel pinks and bright bubble-gum, this colourful wedding styling, portrays grown-up wedding fun at it’s best. Planner Illy of Illy Elizabeth Weddings created the concept and we hear from her and the team to find out all about it…
Inspiration
“Dreamland Margate is a childhood memory for many suppliers in the wedding industry and a venue that is incredibly hard to have an editorial shoot. The main reason being is the venue is a theme park and used all year round. Last year, we were fortunate enough to take advantage of Dreamlands locked gates and create a styled shoot that would complement that venue as a whole.”
“We envisioned pastel colours which reflected the theme park concept, wanting to include candy floss and bubble gum ice cream in a way that was sophisticated and on-trend. It was important to incorporate new trends like our ruffle wall which was designed specifically for the shoot. We also wanted the newer trend of dried botanicals and fresh florals by newly launched Star and the Rose, which were perfectly together.”
“The styling of the shoot was assisted by Boho and Bloom Prop Hire who also provided all of our props and bespoke ruffle wall. Photography was provided by Pearce Wedding Photography. James worked wonders at getting exactly the right angles to capture the background of Margate itself.
Venue
“Dreamland Margate is best for larger weddings as they have the space to cater for this. You can have your ceremony in the main ballroom building which is where we placed the ruffle wall and cinema chairs.”
Styling Tip…
“It’s really important to be able to compliment the venue you work with but putting your own spin on things which isn’t always easy. I always advise my couples to either pick a specific colour or object we base any theme on and work from there. For a Dreamland Wedding, you need to think big florals, big décor pieces and bold colours. The great thing about the venue is they have neutral settings indoors which are perfect as a backdrop to any colour concept.”
The Bride
Bridal – Love in Lace Bridal
“Our Bridal look was kept within the theme, we wanted to use the sunglasses to create a cool contemporary look. We paired delicate bridal accessories with the white cat-eye sunglasses from ASOS to complement our beautifully detailed sequin gown by Love in Lace Bridal. Our Groomswear was all from ASOS, we wanted more of a relaxed look which is why we opted for an opened shirt.”
Hair and Makeup – Toni Todd
“Toni Todd Hair Boutique came especially for the shoot to give us this natural 50’s inspired look. We wanted to use our models natural beauty and portray a real couple as much as possible.”

“Our cake was to be kept delicate and fresh by The Cake Witch, she used our dried botanical concept to incorporate this into a modern cake design which we loved.”
