We love it when couples find an unusual wedding venue. And the Historic Homestead Opera House doesn’t disappoint! Today we celebrate New Year’s Eve wedding inspiration styled by Justin Straw (see his latest Christmas wedding shoot here). We caught up with Justin to learn more about his inspiration and how you can get the look.
Why did you do the styled shoot?
“We live in an area that is saturated in barn venues. We really wanted to do this to inspire our couples to think outside of the normal venue choices.”
How can a couple turn this theme and ideas into reality?
“Look around your area for buildings and architecture that inspire you. If you find a spot you like, talk to the venue. If they don’t have a room in that space they may know of one that could work perfectly.”
Get The look
The Venue
This venue is one of the oldest venues in The Black Hills. It boasts beautiful architecture with amazing details. Any wedding with beautiful classic details would work perfectly in a space like this.”
The Photography
“I always recommend that you look at a few photographers for your big day. Ask to see full wedding galleries from each photographer and then choose the one that feels right.”
The Dress
“Make sure you try on lots of styles. It’s really easy to get stuck in an idea of how you want to look on your wedding day. You may just surprise yourself if you are open.”
Hair and Makeup
Don’t be afraid to do full glam on your wedding. I talk to some brides who want a natural look, I always remind them that photography washes you out. Also, you can do natural makeup every day, it’s your wedding, go big.”
The Styling
“Pick details that feel timeless and sophisticated. Using details such as neutral colour schemes and white flowers will keep that sophisticated feel.”
The Cake
“If choosing a cake feels overwhelming, keep it simple. A simple white frosted cake with fresh flowers can be so beautiful.”
The Flowers
“Florals are a very important details for your wedding. They can help push your wedding into a certain aesthetic and transform your venue.”
The Stationery
“Choose stationery that will set your wedding apart from others. All the frills of detail card and envelope liners can push it over the top.”
