Bright and fresh, some yellow lemon wedding inspiration on the blog today- from a team of talented suppliers who chose an alternative look, with sunflowers and yellow roses galore, a super cool and chic tattooed bride and the most beautiful black wedding cake it’s sure to give you lots of inspiration. Here shoot coordinator and photographer Pierra of Pierra Photography and the team of suppliers involved tell us how they contributed to this alternative lemon yellow wedding inspired by a trip to Costa Rica…
“My biggest influence for this shoot was a recent trip I took to Costa Rica, I shot a wedding that was full of bright vibrant colours, I came home feeling inspired and at once hit pinterest and came across a wedding theme that had included pears, I then thought maybe I could include a fruit and that’s when I saw on my kitchen side a pack of lemons… and well the rest just all fell into place. I felt inspired by the bright and colourful textures!”
Cake- Bake to the Future
“Naked and semi naked cakes are still at the forefront of the current rustic styling trend and there are so many ways to incorporate your overall theme and colour palette into the cake. I added the gold element to the cake with the separator to add height and as an original way to include a fresh flower display too.”

[line]“This is a great way for couples to have a cake that looks grandiose but is very achievable on a budget. The fresh flowers add vibrancy and texture against the grey and black tones of the cake too. It draws the dark of the cake out of the pits of utterly dull and right into instant elegance whilst still very much looking at home in its natural surroundings.”
“This design could be switched around and changed to suit any colour scheme. My main tip would be to ensure the cake artist uses chocolate ganache for covering the cake and not buttercream as ganache withstands the warmer temperatures of the Summer months much better! You don’t want a gorgeous cake that nobody gets to see because it’s collapsed before you’ve said, ‘I DO’”
Florals- Flowers by EG
“Designing the florals for this shoot was amazing, being given a different brief than most, being able to pull texture’s and real seasonal variety together to show off that unique colour palette for the quirkier bride. By working with the bride to explain about using toning colours from one- or two-colour ranges, will enhance their choice of colours to their themes, then teaming that focal colour with a contrasting foliage to get the most impact for their special day. When seeing the mood-board images for the shoot – I immediately knew which flowers I wanted to give me the most textured and visually interesting florals, using the more unknown varieties to show that seasonal availability can be just as beautiful as the all-time favourites. The outcome from the shoot exceeded expectations, the colour combination is a new favourite!”
The Arch- Coastal Wedding and Event Hire
“We provided a simple yet stunning ceremony arch. To create this, we used our handmade macramé backdrop draped across a dark wooden arch which was perfect for the beautiful countryside venue we styled in. The arch itself was then finished with two corner swags of fresh flowers in a variation of a lemon colour palette. Arches are a simple yet effective way to create either a ceremony arch, a welcome area or a top table backdrop for your wedding and the beauty of them is they can be dressed to suit pretty much any theme. A macramé as used for the shoot offers a botanical effortless style but could easily be swapped for silk swags, heavily flowered arrangements, hoops or even a ribbon backdrop, the possibilities are endless”
The Venue- Knockwood Bespoke Receptions
“The shoot took place at Knockwood Bespoke Receptions. Knockwood is an idyllic meadow reception venue based in the Kentish countryside. Mature lush trees line the celebration field which opens up on to stunning countryside views.”
“Knockwood offers a relaxed, welcoming and free-spirited space to create a wedding reception that is personal to you.”
“Fully DIY wedding is such a popular option because it gives couples the freedom to let their creative flare shine. Knockwood is a hub of creativity and being a fully DIY venue, artistic creations really do take centre stage!”
“From bell tent glamping to clear marquees, Nordic tipis to sailcloth tents, festival weddings to rustic glamour, every style is welcome at Knockwood”
Flower Crowns- The Little Bow Emporium
“The look was achieved by using the finest artificial flowers in a selection of colours for the theme “LEMONS & LIMES”, and Keeping in mind the rustic feel, willow was also used for the children’s items which tied in with the look beautifully”
“The Bridal headpiece was created using smaller flowers and a selection of pearls to give it that little extra pop and finished on an Alice band. Deciding on an asymmetrical look the headpiece has more of a modern look and went well with the style of shoot.”
“The bridesmaid collection was created using artificial flowers matched perfectly with the real flowers used by the florist.”
“The possibilities are endless with the use of artificial flowers and the item can be kept as beautiful keepsakes”
Bridesmaids and Flowergirls – Matchimony
“The launch of our new bridal wear is set to take the bridal market by storm! Featuring contemporary design and fun and vibrant coloured separates we are subverting the norms of the bridal industry!”
“Being part of this shoot featuring the stunning Sian was perfect for us to illustrate our new designs amidst the stunning natural and wild backdrops of the gorgeous countryside with a huge array of fantastic suppliers who embraced the theme of green, wild and lemons to bring to life a truly stunning vision.”
“We believe weddings should be truly about you and embrace everything about you, our new bridalwear and flower girl designs do just that, they let you explore the fun and frivolity of being a bride and at a fraction of the cost”
Teepees – Slumber Teepees
“Because every wedding needs a little retreat for the kiddies, a magical space to play, relax or dream under the stars whilst the adults are in full swing on the dancefloor… you know the saying ‘happy kids… happy couple’ (OK so i may have made that up but it’s true!).”
“A gorgeous teepee area offers a perfectly enchanting twist on the classic ‘kids corner’ for the little ones to get their arts & craft on, read, hang out or even have a nap after all the excitement (and sugar!) has worn off.”
“Think rustic vibes with a natural, edgy twist, throw in a stunning rural location a bit of macramé and, of course, some lemons and you’ll be well on the way to re-creating this unique style.”
Hair and Make Up- Louise Mcintosh Make Up
“As with all my real-life brides, i worked closely with our model Sian to create a makeup look that she would wear herself. We kept the focus on glowing, healthy skin and used pale orange/peach tones to bring out the blue of her eyes. For the lips we used a lipstick by Mac called ‘Spirit’ and finished the whole look with a shimmering setting spray.”
Rings- Lawley Designs
“At Lawley Fine Jewellers, we take great pride in our handmade only rings. We believe every piece should be designed to reflect the personality and lifestyle of the couple. Being one of few jewellers in the UK that can create these amazing Mokume Gane rings, we love that there are so many quirky and classic options. Being that the ring is the one part of your wedding that’ll you’ll see every day for years to come, it’s important to choose to correct ring and jeweler that you can trust.”
Photography- Pierra Photography
“This style shoot was so much fun to shoot, Sian was such a professional, when she walked out in the first dress, I was immediately excited to capture the stunning details, the styling of vibrant yellows and forest greens really gave us all that Tuscany holiday vibe.”
“I decided to shoot from 18.30pm so I didn’t miss a beautiful glare of light which then resulted in an amazing sunset, the lighting really made my job that day easy! Golden hour power!”
Bridal- Ivy Rose Brides
“The two bridal gowns are from the amazing Ella Rosa collection from Kenneth Winston. They use light softer fabrics giving a more flattering fit and modern style to the gowns, with delicate embroidery and detailing they really do have a fine eye for detail. Italian Rose features a subtle fishtail with soft tulle pleats, with an elegant deep sweetheart neckline edged with delicate crystals.”
“Lottie is a true glamour gown for our modern-day brides. With its plain crepe skirt and heavenly laced hem and train, the sheer encrusted corset adds a real wow factor to this gown. We are lucky enough at Ivy Rose Bridal Boutique to be a premier stockist for Ella Rosa and have lovingly hand-picked the most beautiful gowns from the collection.”
Stationery- Wonderland Invites
“When Pierra sent through the brief for the shoot I instantly knew I wanted to go dark green and moody. Despite knowing that lemons were going to be incorporated. I chose to steer clear from them as an element. Instead I ran with leaves across a few shades of green.”
