Brides that don’t want a traditional dress, or a dress at all, this one’s for you! A crisp, clean white tailored suit for this modern luxe wedding at Once Upon A Woodland, Hurley Farm, is the perfect addition to the rustic backdrop and intimate vibe that this venue provides. It’s wild, rustic yet contemporary luxe styling, proves that a woodland setting does not have to mean boho. We catch up with shoot coordinator and photographer Masha Unwerth who tells us all about the concept…
“I have always loved the combination of modern and minimalist elements in wedding photography. I wanted to create a contemporary look in a unique woodland setting of the venue, which is a perfect inspiration for couples who look for something utterly different yet adaptable in most wedding settings, including bohemian style and industrial luxe, of course! It’s the perfect grand woodland venue for the DIY couples, boho brides and festival themes.
“The theme of this shoot was modern unconventional, I was inspired by minimalist elements that I have long wanted to incorporate in the concept and styling. The artistic floral designs by West Norfolk Flowers of pampas grass, white orchids, freesia, and dried bleached palm spear accompanied the modern table finish. Green, white, and gold tones combined with dark, minimal elements graced the wedding table, creating a celebratory and inviting dining space. The wicker outdoor armchairs and layered rugs tied the natural elements in the setting to the surroundings and created the cosiest atmosphere. I wanted couples to envisage that you can diversify the woodland space away from boho feel, with other details”
Planning Tips
- “Have an aesthetic in mind, a theme, this will make design decisions and everything else more cohesive.”
- “Book your vendors based on their style of communication with you, make sure your vendor is a right match for the theme.”
- “Understand what you do not want and do not be afraid to exclude any aspects of the wedding day that make you feel uncomfortable or is not your style.”
“The bride’s two-piece trousers look was kept quite simple with clean lines and contemporary styling, with an added chic headband accessory by Garter and Veil. Embellished with an array of gold and off-gold embossed florals, gilded vines, pave leaves and quartz pebbles, the padded headband features Swarovski pearls and is a serious style consideration as well as reflection of personal style that can help modern brides create the bridal look they yearn for. ”
Wearing a trouser suit to your wedding adds to a dramatic style statement and is a great choice for any events in the lead up to a wedding day too. Clip-on bold lightweight earrings in circular formation by Earth Links Bridal offset the bridal suit of the model showcasing the playfulness, and giving the ever-edgy look at the same time. The groom’s styling was kept to sophisticated black suit and bow tie to compliment.”
“The perfectly wild, tented, fresh and textured drippy florals and decor by West Norfolk Flowers, were designed to enhance the natural lush setting of venue, with a statement bridal bouquet and asymmetric deconstructed wedding arch in rectangular shape. This created a contemporary dreamy feel for the ceremony.”
“The Jo Harper Cake Company worked the clean, crisp lines and perfect angles to create a modern, eye-catching trio of confection. The fresh and sophisticated modern cakes perfectly complimented the wedding aesthetic of the shoot. From the subtle pressed flower pattern into the fondant to use of perfectly dried grass and cotton, it proves that the light and airy design, along with the subtlest of details, are the perfect combination for a summer mod-inspired wedding.”
“The Boho Bride created two bridal hair styles for the bride, each working in unison with the bridal accessories to its ultimate perfection. The neatly tucked behind the ears low hair bun is a great choice for brides who want to wear the look with a headband as opposed to a traditional veil. The second look of glossy, structured side-swept hair waves helped to elongate the appearance of brides face.”
“Mathilda Lundin Calligraphy designed a bespoke invitation suite based on the colour palette which included a vellum design, the envelopes with liners echoed the design of the vellum to tie the details together, a minimalistic calligraphy was then used. Light warm nude paper was then used for the place cards and were perfect with the overall table styling. The suite is perfect for couples who look for a clean design with a touch of romance.”
Becky Downton of Becky Downton MUA did both the make up and modelled as the beautiful bride. Becky says; “The idea of a modern unconventional bridal makeup look really appealed to me, it gave me a chance to show off a sleek editorial bridal look. I applied a cool toned brown eyeshadow to compliment the eyes and I kept the skin matte and flawless with a touch of bronzer. I chose a nude brown on the lips to tie in with the whole look. It was important to keep the makeup effortless and cool.”
