Think English country garden wedding for today’s styled shoot, inspired by colours and shades from the Yorkshire moors and set at The Bishop’s Palace Wells; a historic traditional wedding venue in Somerset. Chloe Kennedy of Kennedy Events & Weddings both created and coordinated the shoot and wanted to bring her Northern roots to the south and show that just because you have chosen a traditional wedding venue, doesn’t mean you have to choose traditional styling. We hear from her about the suppliers involved and how the shoot was created…
“Shades of Wuthering Heights is a modern love story, incorporating the shades of the Yorkshire Moors, set against the history, of one of the most historic wedding venues in Somerset. I’m so fortunate to be the in-house Wedding Planner at The Bishop’s Palace and own my own wedding styling business and I have wanted to bring the two together for over a year now. The Palace attracts quite a traditional style of wedding and I just wanted to show it can be so much more. The ruins of the great Hall at the Palace, with the grey skies rolling over it, always transports me instantly to my Northern roots. Now living in Somerset, I wanted to bring the two together.
“I really wanted to capture some of the history and show how you can use the building itself in different ways, using repurposed props to dress areas like the calligraphy present & card desk, or the seating area with the book and whisky bar.”
“Inspiring couples that you can use this vast space and make it unique to the couple. From the moment I first saw the Palace, the blue gown was fixed in my head and when Dandelion & Pearls agreed to make it especially for the shoot, I was delighted, as it turns out it’s quite on trend now but I wanted to demonstrate you can still have a classical wedding but not to be afraid of colour. Bespoke Shoes by Jemma provided the finishing touch, with the accents of blue to compliment the dress.”
“The flowers by Jen at Goldflinch Floral Studio were a mix of seasonal spring flowers in light pastel shades for the main arrangements – Icelandic poppies, tulips & muscari with hints of the darker heath inspired heather tones from hellebores and dark eucalyptus. We wanted the bridal bouquet to feel very whimsical and rambling so included jasmine and blossom to give it a trailing and unstructured feel. At the base of the moon Jen used gypsophila in pinks and purples to create a floor cloud. The inspiration coming from the look of clouds against a bright moon.”
“The tablescape, was a mixture of rustic banqueting with a contrast of the luxury feel of natural dyed silks from and mismatched patterned plates. Using the hundred year old, ink wells and laser cut feathers just added that final touch and completed the look for this Shades of Wuthering Heights styled shoot.”
“The cake had all the drama and colour, the use of edible calligraphy in the texture icing came out so well and it looked just stunning against the backdrop of the Palace. I chose to use Mirabelle Makery for their calligraphy services, although I didn’t want to theme the shoot, I did feel a literary nod to Wuthering Heights was appropriate, so torn paper and quotes from the book were used to give the stationery a romantic feel.”
