We head to Valencia with todays romantic Spanish wedding, with a coloured vintage style lace dress, the most beautiful peach, blush and green styling and a Great Gatsby meets Downton Abbey vibe! Here we catch up with shoot coordinator Blue Robin Events who tell us all about how this romantic Spanish wedding in Valencia was created…
“We fell in love with the dress and we knew we had to do something special with it so we decided we needed to put together a styled photoshoot to honour the dress. We wanted to put together a photoshoot that felt romantic and sensual, just like the dress inspired. We wanted to represent a journey, from being someone’s little kid to being a full grown woman in charge of herself, full of love, sensuality and ideas for herself, ready to take on the world.”
“The influence was the “rebel” spirit of the women in the twenties, brave women who wanted to break with corsets and social impositions and wanted to feel free and comfortable on their own skin. We wanted to represent the freedom women fell once they broke free of their chains, even thou they knew they still have lots to fight for, they found a way of feeling beautiful, sensual and happy. Without going all too crazy, we wanted to mix the luxury of The Great Gatsby with the more down to earth elegance of Downton Abbey.”
“It was shot in El huerto de Santa María, in Valencia. We wanted a greenhouse because we wanted to play with the lights and the shadows, the images behind the glass, the other way of seeing things. We chose this one in particular because it ensured us the sunlight in February.”
Styling – Blue Robin Events
“The outfit had to be feminine, smart and romantic. Everything had to complement the dress as well as make Lydia Ruiz feel beautiful, comfortable on her own skin, a woman in all meanings of the word. For the decoration, we wanted to create separate spaces that represented freedom in different ways, she has the mini bar with an open suitcase, she’s ready to pack and leave for her new life while having a drink and listening to some music.”
“The sweets table, represents the modern fight against being skinny and perfect, she just indulges herself on want she wants with no cares in the world. The table is set up for two, but she doesn’t feel like she needs anyone else, so just pulls one chair and enjoys it herself, with an indulging menu full of “freedom dishes” The car was part of the venue and we felt it just match the session perfectly as it represented her way to freedom and the life she wants.”
Photography – The Ro Wedding Company
“In our search of representing the different sides of the ear, the fight for freedom while still having to comply with society’s room, it was important that we could play with reflections, lights and shadows to portrait that struggle and that sense of freedom at the end. The photography was focused on showing a sensual and happy side of her. Show how delicate and precious she is.”
Flowers – Petty Pérez Manglano
“The inspiration behind the flower decoration was the romanticism and delicacy of the roaring twenties bride. All flowers are delicate and light, in pale Pink and whites, very subtle colours that represent her inner beauty and pairs well with the carved bohemian crystal ware and the dress’ embroidery. For the bouquet we wanted to add something a bit different, a preserve flower ring, modern and current while combining very well with the romantic view of the setting.”
Cake – Dulce Dorotea
“We wanted to add something a bit cheekier and that’s why we chose a Great Gastby’s style sweet table. A cake that resembles the greatness and luxury of the Great Gastby, with pearls, covered in black and gold and the cupcake and cookies dusted in gold and heart chocolates to represent that’s where here heart is at, the freedom to eat and be merry.”
Hair and Make Up – Conso Consentida and Irene Amayuelas
“We wanted to represent the most iconic elements of the hair and make up of that time. We chose a smokey eye and a “garson” style haircut, very common during the roaring twenties. Her hairstyle aims to represent a fake “bob” cut. All this while trying to stay current and adapt to modern tendencies, such a glow concealer or iridescent colours. Juicy, wide lips, finished in a matt colour similar to the dress shade completed the make up choices.”
“We used a feather headpiece, handmade specifically for us, to gather the hair to recreate the false bob. Again, we used very natural colours, as we wanted the whole look to be a second skin for her. We wanted to use a make up style that could be used by brides today by mixing the style from the pass with the new tendencies, especially when choosing colours.”
“This type of make up and hair style is perfect for brides that chose a straight dress that is either completely loose or tight around the lower hip. Wavy hair and an slightly smoked eye with very natural lips would ensure a modern-roaring 20’s look is achieved.”
