Winter weddings don’t have to include snowy landscapes and fur wedding capes and this beautiful shoot proves just that! Plano A Events provided the creative direction, styling, stationery and floral design for this stunning woodland winter destination wedding at Terceira Island in Portugal. Aptly titled Azorean Love it provides a modern romantic vibe and the most stunning details and touches. We catch up with the team who tell us about the inspiration behind the shoot and they share their wedding planning tips along the way too…
Inspiration
“Our idea, since the beginning, was to create a dramatic and wintery decoration, in line with the couple’s personality and the time of year and the natural setting where the session would take place. We can say that the keyword that inspired us was “dramatic”. This shoot had four moments: ceremony, in the middle of the island´s black forest, the couple´s photo shoot, in nature, a meal for two in the middle of nature, surrounded by trees and the moment of cutting the cake, also in the middle of nature, with green all around. Although this work was a styled shoot, this work was designed taking into account the personality of the couple, the models were a real couple and actually wrote their vows for the ceremony moment, as if it was a real wedding. She wrote lighter and funnier vows but he took the matter seriously and wrote a true love declaration.”
Venue
“Eloping to Terceira Island in the Azores is a dream come true for couples looking for an intimate and romantic setting. The island’s interior provides a secluded area away from it all, surrounded by lush green hills, and trees as far as the eye can see. This makes it the perfect spot to celebrate love in its purest form while being immersed in nature.”
Planning Advice
“There are some differences between a wedding and an elopement photographer. The main difference is in the scope of services they are providing. A wedding photographer will meet with you one or two times before your wedding day, spend 8-12 hours with you at your wedding, then edit your photos. An elopement photographer, however, is so much more than just a photographer who shows up on your day. An elopement photographer will guide the through the planning process.”
” Your stationery colours and vibe should match your wedding décor and it’s the first impression of your wedding to all your guests. It’s important that you know your budget, colour pallet and vibe that best matches your personality. Also pay attention to some timings: Sending out save the dates, placing orders, defining quantities, rsvp deadline… Choose a professional that helps you with all that and your stationery will be magic.”
“When envisioning the wedding day look, the first thing to think is probably the dress. With so much emphasis on finding the perfect wedding gown, the dress is typically a key component of a bride’s look—but it’s not the only item that matters when creating a cohesive ensemble. The dress is typically a key component of a bride’s look and this is what we concentrated on for this inspirational shoot. What makes a bridal look cohesive will vary from person to person, more than trends, the choice of the dress should be something that completely fills the bride’s feelings.”
“When choosing your hair and makeup stylist for the big day, it is important that you identify with their portfolio. It is also essential that you have a consultation and proof beforehand. Take ideas of make-up and hairstyles that you like and think about what you identify with and what is part of your personality and day-to-day life. Washing your hair the day before and in the days before making sure you drink plenty of water and sleep well is also fundamental. Finally, trust the professionals you have chosen and relax.”
“For your flowers and for choosing a florist take everything into consideration. Your budget, mood boards, flower education and seasonal flowers will make the pieces come together perfectly and will ensure that the perfect floral design brightens up your special day.”
“For your cake it’s important to choose a bakery that has gotten great reviews from past brides. Search online or ask friends and family for bakers they recommend. Best yet, if you have been to a wedding where the cake was “melt in your mouth” delicious, ask the bride or groom where they ordered their cake. After you have narrowed your search, call the bakery or designer and ask when you can come in for a tasting. The latest trend in wedding cakes is to design the cake after the bride’s dress or reception décor. Look through the sample cakes the baker has created to get a sense of their style. Make sure to ask if they can accommodate a specific design you have and/or can offer design suggestions based on your wedding style. Ask your baker for their recommendation on how many layers the cake should have in order to serve the number of anticipated guests. If you have your heart set on a certain design of three layers, but your guest count calls for five layers, work with your baker to come up with a solution. It may be possible to get a sheet cake in addition to the display cake. A sheet cake can also save you money. The cake is a main focal point at your wedding. Therefore, having its own table will give it the attention it deserves.”
