How did you and Sam meet?
“We met at work; we had been friends and known each other for 4 years before Sam plucked up the courage to ask me out. We’re both teachers at the same school and many of the students decided to become matchmakers on our behalf.”
The Proposal
“One of our earliest dates was in Warwick, where we sat on a bench, watching the river meander by and reading hilarious definitions on Urban Dictionary, which still makes us laugh. Sam has a real passion for board games and we have spent many hours playing games together. The proposal was based on a subtle lie about the Game of Life. Sam had been planting ideas that we needed to play it; he also had a blog to review board games. The proposal was in the form of a blog that I read as I sat on that same bench in Warwick -it began as a review of The Game of Life and ended with him asking me to marry him.”
Planning the wedding
“We are big fans of the outdoors and loved the idea of being married in a woodland under some trees, followed by a big party in a tepee. As soon as we were engaged, we began looking for venues that would fit this image.”
The Location – Garden Tipi Wedding
“My husband never lets me forget that he found the venue…it epitomises English countryside with wild flowers and foliage along with thousands of bluebells at a particular time of year. We were married under the trees overlooking rolling fields and then all walked down to the tepee, which sat upon a meadow -luckily the sun came out at this point.”
The Dress
“As with many brides, I didn’t end up with what I expected it. It is the Philomena from Watters’ Willowby range. I felt incredible in a flowing gown with intricate detail on the body.”
The Suit
“The Groom’s suit was from Topman. His favourite colour is blue so he made sure his suit reflected this and it went very well with his flowing locks.”
The Bridesmaids
“We wanted the bridesmaids’ outfits to connect with the wedding dress so chose tulle skirts from Monsoon and some beautiful embellished soft pink cropped top by Lace and Beads. They looked utterly gorgeous.”
The Details
“We didn’t have flowers as such. My favourite colour is green because it reminds me of nature and we asked Katie (our wonderful stylist) to use foliage such as eucalyptus throughout our venue; I even had it as my bouquet mixed with gypsophila and loved it! Katie created a Nordic/Viking style feel throughout the venue and it was incredible. It was all kept a secret from me, so I had the most wonderful experience on the day -every tiny detail was so thoughtfully put together. I can’t even pick a favourite part.”
The Best Part of the day
“My husband loved the moments just after we were married, when we were able to sit on our custom-made area under the trees and watch our guests go and find their polaroid photographs and chat. I have to agree with him that the whole ceremony was beautiful. Katie had laid lots of gorgeous rugs down the aisle and we were amongst the bluebells. My favourite moment was when we led the walk out of the trees, across the meadow and saw the tepee for the first time under the blue skies. It was perfect. Our brilliant photographer got such a great shot of this moment.”
Words of wisdom
“I didn’t think our wedding was that alternative but when most people have only been to traditional style weddings, you do hear a lot of gasps but it was the perfect reflection of us and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. However, listening to advice from others can be so helpful -it meant our day ran smoothly and we are really grateful. Something my friends said to us was to make sure we took some time to ourselves during the day…definitely go for a walk and enjoy your first moments of married life.”
