Wedding cakes are getting more like works of art and the ones that we see at our shows are breathtaking. Today Laura from Cakes by Yolk shares with us the current wedding cake trends that you (and your guests) will love.
Wedding Cake Trends: The Semi-Naked Wedding Cake
This is a cleaner, slightly smarter update of the ever-popular naked cake; for those couples looking for a clean modern cake, with a bit of rustic charm still there.
It is a really versatile style, as it can be dressed up with full floral decoration, or kept really simple, with just minimal additions of foliage. You can also mix it up a bit and have a semi-naked tier sandwiched between two naked tiers.
Wedding Cake Trends: The Botanical Wedding Cake
With the Pantone colour of the year being Greenery, there are lots of couples who are opting for a more minimal look, preferring to go for an abundance of different foliage and herbs rather than lots of blooms.
Wedding Cake Trends: The Mini Wedding Cake
Something that has been really popular with 2017 couples has been mini cakes. Either having an entire tower of mini cakes, as was popular with cupcakes, or having minis alongside the main cake. This is a great idea, as you could have the mini ones for the children, or have them as the dessert, so each guest has their own little spectacular cake. And of course, the mini cakes can be a different flavour to the main cake – perfect if you have guests with allergies or intolerances.

Add a touch of glamour to your cakes; whether it be the lightest touch touch of antiqe-style gold or silver leaf, or a real showstopper with entire tiers covered in gold leaf, people are really embracing a touch of elegance.
